Rob Reid with his fantasy premier league GW20 player picks

Hi everyone and welcome to Gameweek 20 Player Picks.

You may recall that last season I ran a weekly article where I selected an Ace, Banker and Joker pick each week. This season I’ve slightly changed the format but I’ll be making my picks along similar lines. The Ace will be a form player who I would heavily favour for captain this week. The Banker is a fixture pick and has an eye to the next few gameweeks. The Joker will be a differential pick where the only condition is that they must have less than 10% ownership.

I’ll be keeping an eye on how each player performs each week. After the success of GW1 & 2s Bankers, I’ve decided to go back on my original plan and I’ll now be following the Banker pick for 4 weeks again, like I did last season. I’ll also be running a weekly average on how well the selections perform each week. Finally, there will be Guest Picks again from time to time and I’ll be running some Twitter Polls throughout the season where Fantasy Football Geek readers and Twitter followers will be able to vote on who we’re going to pick in each category – keep an eye out for these as the season goes on and feel free to vote!

Here goes – wish me luck!

Gameweek 20 Picks

Banker – Richarlison (EVE £7.0m) – bha

Richarlison’s goal off the bench against Burnley was his 9th of the season and 3rd in 5 games, what a shame he decided to celebrate by waving his shirt in the air, costing managers another point! That aside, it’s certainly been a fine campaign so far for the Brazilian and let’s face it, it’s had to be to justify his huge transfer fee. The only question is whether he can sustain this into the New Year, instead of tailing off like he did last season. 70 minutes rest against Burnley won’t have done any harm at all, and with Everton not facing any of the Big 6 until GW27 he should be a sound bet to pick up a steady stream of returns over the next few weeks.

Ace – Jessie Lingard (MAN £6.8m) – BOU

With Pogba already in the Banker section and Martial a doubt, it’s LIngard who gets the nod as this week’s Ace for United’s fixture against Bournemouth. The Red Devils look rejuvenated under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and England star Lingard will be looking to add to his season tally of 4 goals and 2 assists, all of which have been racked up in his last 5 games. The visiting Cherries have a miserable record against the Big 6 this season – they’ve lost all 6 games they’ve played against them so far, conceding 18 goals in the process. Recent 5-0 and 4-0 reverses against Spurs and Liverpool respectively should forewarn us to expect similar carnage at Old Trafford this weekend, unless Eddie Howe has some cunning master-plan up his sleeve!

For the festive period, some of my fellow contributors will be making the Joker picks. This week, it’s regular contributor and general stats wizard Joseph Crilley. Spurs fan Joe finished with an excellent OR of 7k last season and 13k in 2016-17. Here’s his GW20 Joker Pick:

Joker – Ben Chilwell (LEI £5.1m) – CAR

My thanks to Rob for asking me to contribute to the picks article this week and I decided to look for a team with a strong home match-up at the weekend which resulted in looking at Leicester and Man Utd. I contemplated Maddison and Lingard, but in the end I’ve decided to go for Ben Chilwell who is a player that I’ve long admired and would really like Spurs to sign one day. Leicester face a Cardiff side who have been rather shot shy all season and they have also had issues on the right-side of their defence with centre back Manga often filling in there. Therefore, I think that we could see an attacking return from Chilwell, following one of his marauding runs forward, along with the potential clean sheet. Leicester should be bouncing after highly impressive victories against City and Chelsea – I expect their form to continue and hopefully Chilwell can get in on the act!

Thanks to Joe for his pick and a very Happy New Year and best of luck for GW20 everyone!
