Rob Reid with his fantasy premier league GW22 player picks

Hi everyone and welcome to Gameweek 22 Player Picks.

You may recall that last season I ran a weekly article where I selected an Ace, Banker and Joker pick each week. This season I’ve slightly changed the format but I’ll be making my picks along similar lines. The Ace will be a form player who I would heavily favour for captain this week. The Banker is a fixture pick and has an eye to the next few gameweeks. The Joker will be a differential pick where the only condition is that they must have less than 10% ownership.

I’ll be keeping an eye on how each player performs each week. After the success of GW1 & 2s Bankers, I’ve decided to go back on my original plan and I’ll now be following the Banker pick for 4 weeks again, like I did last season. I’ll also be running a weekly average on how well the selections perform each week. Finally, there will be Guest Picks again from time to time and I’ll be running some Twitter Polls throughout the season where Fantasy Football Geek readers and Twitter followers will be able to vote on who we’re going to pick in each category – keep an eye out for these as the season goes on and feel free to vote!

Here goes – wish me luck!

Gameweek 22 Picks

Banker – Mo Salah (LIV £13.3m) – bha

Mo Salah has become a very difficult player not to own of late. He’s the most selected player in the game (42.4% ownership), he’s a popular captain choice, he’s returning regularly and he’s very expensive. If you’ve got him – great, if you’ve not, then you’re no doubt trying to find a way to work him into your budget. This week’s fixture perhaps isn’t as easy as it might appear – Brighton can be a stuffy opponent at The Amex, but let’s face it you simply wouldn’t bet against Salah adding to the 13 goals and 8 assists that make him the games highest scoring player. (I’ll just go and hide behind the sofa now shall I?)

Ace – Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (ARS £11.4m) – whm

On the subject of high ownership players scoring lots of points, this week’s Ace also fits the bill nicely. 35.2% owned Aubameyang is the league’s joint top scorer (alongside 32.5% owned Harry Kane) with 14 goals. He also has 5 assists and is currently the 3rd highest points scorer in the game. He’s in solid form with 4 goals and an assist in his last four, the only blank being the car crash that was The Gunners thumping at Anfield. Arsenal visit The London Stadium this weekend to play opposition who have been inconsistent at best this season and are certainly not the most watertight at the back. Who’s that captain’s armband going on this week the folks? Decisions, decisions!

Joker (as voted by the FFG Twitter Community) – Gerard Deulofeu (WAT £5.5m) – cry

Many thanks to the 283 of you who voted in this week’s poll. The winner with 33% was Watford midfielder Deulofeu who makes it a rare away fixture lock-out for this week’s Picks! The 2.2% owned Spaniard has produced 2 goals and 2 assists over his last 5 matches and looks a solid budget investment in a Watford side with decent from and a good run of fixtures. The worry I guess is sustainability – his minutes do get managed and even in the 15/16 season at Everton when he racked up 9 assists and 2 goals he was a streaky player rather than a consistent one. Possibly a better bet for a rotating 4th/5th mid rather than a solid 3rd one.

That’s all from me this week on Player Picks, best of luck for this week everyone!
