Hi everyone and welcome to Gameweek 23 Player Picks.

You may recall that last season I ran a weekly article where I selected an Ace, Banker and Joker pick each week. This season I’ve slightly changed the format but I’ll be making my picks along similar lines. The Ace will be a form player who I would heavily favour for captain this week. The Banker is a fixture pick and has an eye to the next few gameweeks. The Joker will be a differential pick where the only condition is that they must have less than 10% ownership.

I’ll be keeping an eye on how each player performs each week. After the success of GW1 & 2s Bankers, I’ve decided to go back on my original plan and I’ll now be following the Banker pick for 4 weeks again, like I did last season. I’ll also be running a weekly average on how well the selections perform each week. Finally, there will be Guest Picks again from time to time and I’ll be running some Twitter Polls throughout the season where Fantasy Football Geek readers and Twitter followers will be able to vote on who we’re going to pick in each category – keep an eye out for these as the season goes on and feel free to vote!

Here goes – wish me luck!

Gameweek 23 Picks

Banker – Marcus Rashford – (MAN £7.5m) – BRI

6 goals and 4 assists in the last 7 gameweeks make Rashford FPL’s form striker at the moment. He truly has been transformed under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s stewardship and he capped this with a well taken winner at Wembley last weekend as United battled to victory against Spurs. His fixtures now get easier again, with 2 home games against Brighton and Burnley up next for The Red Devils before visits to Leicester and Fulham. This week’s visitors Brighton were stuffy in a narrow 1-0 defeat at home to Liverpool last weekend, but traditionally aren’t as strong on the road and United will certainly be keen to make amends for the GW2 reverse fixture where they were surprisingly defeated 3-2 by The Seagulls at The Amex.

Ace – Raheem Sterling – (MCI £11.3m) – hud

The blue half of Manchester also have a plum match this weekend as they make the short journey along the M62 to manager-less Huddersfield. The Terriers are rooted to the bottom of the table and were smashed 6-1 in the reverse fixture at the Ethiad back in August. The smart money would be on another comfortable City win, in which many of their attacking assets could fill their boots and I’ve gone for Sterling out of these. He’s coming back into form with 3 returns in the last 3 weeks after blanks in GW18 & 19, and he’ll be keen to add to his current season tally of 9 goals and 10 assists.

Joker – Fernando Llorente (TOT £5.6m) – ful

It’s a very left-field pick this week for our Joker with me going for a player with 0.7% ownership and only 36 minutes in the EPL so far this season! Reading between the lines, what we have in reality is a Spanish international striker who is (albeit temporarily) at the top of the pecking order for a Big 6 club who have 3 home fixtures in the next 5 and face 3 of the bottom 6 clubs in this run. With Kane out till March, Son away on Asia Cup duty and Lucas Moura just on the cusp of coming back from injury, this is surely time for Fernando to hear the drums! He is a proven goalscorer (15 goals for Swansea in 16-17) and he’s got the likes of Alli, Eriksen and Tripper to supply him, so he could be a good short term punt for anyone looking for a sub-£6m striker. We’ll see!

That’s all from me this week on Player Picks, best of luck for this week everyone
