Rob Reid with his fantasy premier league GW29 player picks
Hi everyone and welcome to Gameweek 29 Player Picks.
You may recall that last season I ran a weekly article where I selected an Ace, Banker and Joker pick each week. This season I’ve slightly changed the format but I’ll be making my picks along similar lines. The Ace will be a form player who I would heavily favour for captain this week. The Banker is a fixture pick and has an eye to the next few gameweeks. The Joker will be a differential pick where the only condition is that they must have less than 10% ownership.
I’ll be keeping an eye on how each player performs each week. After the success of GW1 & 2s Bankers, I’ve decided to go back on my original plan and I’ll now be following the Banker pick for 4 weeks again, like I did last season. I’ll also be running a weekly average on how well the selections perform each week. Finally, there will be Guest Picks again from time to time and I’ll be running some Twitter Polls throughout the season where Fantasy Football Geek readers and Twitter followers will be able to vote on who we’re going to pick in each category – keep an eye out for these as the season goes on and feel free to vote!
Here goes – wish me luck!

Gameweek 29 Picks
Banker – Eden Hazard (CHE 10.8m) – ful
Chelsea’s star midfielder has attracted a wave of sales over the last few weeks, with other 800,000 managers jettisoning him since GW22. This has coincided with some poor form from The Blues, a corner which the tenuously placed Maurizio Sarri will be hoping they’ve turned after beating Spurs on Wednesday. Personally I think this is a good time to buy Hazard – it’s Fulham away next, they’ve got a guaranteed gameweek 31 fixture and an outside possibility of a double in GW32 if their Brighton fixture gets moved there. Seasoned FPL managers know he can be an explosive, streaky type of player and with 12 goals and 10 assists already this season, I wouldn’t bet against a couple of double figure hauls in the next few games.
Ace – Paul Pogba (MAN 8.9m) – SOU
United may be in the midst of an injury crisis, but this didn’t stop them confidently dispatching Crystal Palace in midweek, with Pogba adding another assist for his troubles. That’s 11 goals and 10 assists for the season now and 9 returns in the last 11, an amazing transition since the arrival of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Old Trafford. Southampton battled to a 2-0 win against Fulham in GW28, but I think they’re going to struggle against an in-from United team this weekend with Pogba poised to continue his recent great form.
Joker – Ashley Barnes (BUR 5.7m) – CRY
Sadly for Barnes, it looks like his dreams of playing international football for Austria may be over after the Austrian Council of Ministers for Sport announced that he ‘does not meet the criteria’ to represent the Alpine Nation. FPL managers however should not overlook him so easily. The Clarets form has been on the up of late and Barnes has been a key part of this, with 4 goals and an assist in the last 5 games. This week’s visitors Palace have fared slightly better on the road this season, but are now on the same points as Burnley and will be perilously looking over their shoulder at the relegation trapdoor. This should be a close game, but I’d be expecting the home side to do the business with Barnes (along with strike partner Chris Wood) looking to do the damage.
That’s all from me this week on Player Picks, best of luck for this week everyone!
