Rob Reid with his fantasy premier league GW31 player picks

Hi everyone and welcome to Gameweek 31 Player Picks.

You may recall that last season I ran a weekly article where I selected an Ace, Banker and Joker pick each week. This season I’ve slightly changed the format but I’ll be making my picks along similar lines. The Ace will be a form player who I would heavily favour for captain this week. The Banker is a fixture pick and has an eye to the next few gameweeks. The Joker will be a differential pick where the only condition is that they must have less than 10% ownership.

I’ll be keeping an eye on how each player performs each week. After the success of GW1 & 2s Bankers, I’ve decided to go back on my original plan and I’ll now be following the Banker pick for 4 weeks again, like I did last season. I’ll also be running a weekly average on how well the selections perform each week. Finally, there will be Guest Picks again from time to time and I’ll be running some Twitter Polls throughout the season where Fantasy Football Geek readers and Twitter followers will be able to vote on who we’re going to pick in each category – keep an eye out for these as the season goes on and feel free to vote!

Here goes – wish me luck!

Gameweek 31 Picks

Banker – Ryan Fraser (BOU 6.2m) – NEW

After a run of blanks stretching back to GW21, it was a welcome return to form in GW30 for Fraser. A goal and an assist took his tallies to the season to 6 and 10 respectively and with the fixtures set fair, I’d be expecting the Aberdonian to prosper further. His Banker stint starts with a home fixture against Newcastle, a team who although stubborn at the back do find life tricky on the road. It’s certainly a long journey from the north-east to the south coast and I don’t think The Magpies will be relishing the prospect. The visitors also have Schar suspended and key centre-half Lascelles a slight doubt; all the better as far as Fraser’s prospects go for this week!

Ace – Sadio Mane (LIV 9.9m) – ful

Salah may be the high ownership and captain favourite for this week, but it’s colleague Sadio Mane who is bang in form at the moment. It was a second double figure return in 3 in GW30 and how he didn’t get a hat-trick is beyond me after he somehow conceived to put the ball over sliding along the ground from 4 yards out! This weeks opponents Fulham have been to be quite frank, terrible defensively this season and it would take a serious stretch of the imagination to think that they would keep The Reds out this week. The only question I guess is who to captain? Do you go for the percentage Shield option of Mo Salah or the in-form Sword option of Mane?

Joker – Declan Rice (WHM 4.7m) – HUD

Ireland’s Young Player of the Year has just been called up by England this week, which is probably nearly as bizarre as me recommending a West Ham defender for a Player Pick! There’s good reason though why he’s my Joker this week to be fair. First up, he’s actually playing as an out of position midfielder, so offers you a bit more goal threat in this respect. Second reason? Well quite simply, he’s playing Huddersfield – bottom of the table with only 8 away goals all season – so therefore, he looks a good shout for a clean sheet. And finally, you’re guaranteed fixtures all the way through with The Hammers having no blanks. So basically, he’s a decent pick this week I reckon whichever strategy you’re on, whether you’re dead-ending your team this week or in GW33, whether you’re on a Free Hit or whether you’ve already used all your chips. Just watch Huddersfield pinch a cheeky goal now…!!!

That’s all from me this week on Player Picks, best of luck for this week everyone!
