Rob Reid with his fantasy premier league GW6 player picks

Hi everyone and welcome to Gameweek 6 Player Picks.

You may recall that last season I ran a weekly article where I selected an Ace, Banker and Joker pick each week. This season I’ve slightly changed the format but I’ll be making my picks along similar lines. The Ace will be a form player who I would heavily favour for captain this week. The Banker is a fixture pick and has an eye to the next few gameweeks. The Joker will be a differential pick where the only condition is that they must have less than 10% ownership.

I’ll be keeping an eye on how each player performs each week. After the success of GW1 & 2s Bankers, I’ve decided to go back on my original plan and I’ll now be following the Banker pick for 4 weeks again, like I did last season. I’ll also be running a weekly average on how well the selections perform each week. Finally, there will be Guest Picks again from time to time and I’ll be running some Twitter Polls throughout the season where Fantasy Football Geek readers and Twitter followers will be able to vote on who we’re going to pick in each category – keep an eye out for these as the season goes on and feel free to vote!

Here goes – wish me luck!

Gameweek 5 Picks

Banker – Alexadre Lacazette (ARS £9.4m) EVE

3 home fixtures in the next 4 for the Gunners beginning with Everton’s visit to The Emirates. They may have flattered to deceive in the first few weeks of the season, but you can’t ignore the fact that they’ve won their last 3 games scoring 8 goals in the process and creating plenty of chances to boot. Lacazette has returned in these last 3 and seems to have nailed down the centre-forward berth, with Aubameyang (priced £1.5m more) shunted out to the left – I’m backing the Frenchman for some steady returns over the next few weeks.

Ace – Sadio Mane (LIV £10m) – SOU

A lively blank is an apt description of his performance versus Spurs last week and Mane will surely be relishing a home match against his former club in GW6. The Saints were unable to hold a 2 goal lead at home on Monday versus usually profligate visitors Brighton and Mark Hughes hasn’t been renowned for producing defensively solid teams in previous roles. I’m therefore backing Liverpool to continue the good feeling generated by their late winner against PSG on Tuesday and put the Saints to the sword, with Mane at the forefront.

Joker (as picked by the FFG Twitter Community) – James Maddison (LEI £6.5m) – HUD

Many thanks to the 393 of you who voted in Thursday’s poll and there were some great shouts in the comments section as well. The winner with 44% of the vote was James Maddison who looks to be finding his feet in the EPL. His record in the Championship for Norwich last season was outstanding and he looks to have taken on a good prortion of the set-piece responsibilities.   Opponents Huddersfield looked a bit more solid last week versus Palace but I suspect they’re going to struggle away to The Foxes who will be keen to bounce back from a bad defeat to Bournemouth last week. Add to this a good run of fixtures until GW16 and I think he’s a nice differential option for the coming weeks.

That’s all from me this week folks and good luck!  Follow Rob on twitter with this link
