Hi everyone and welcome to Gameweek 8 Player Picks.

You may recall that last season I ran a weekly article where I selected an Ace, Banker and Joker pick each week. This season I’ve slightly changed the format but I’ll be making my picks along similar lines. The Ace will be a form player who I would heavily favour for captain this week. The Banker is a fixture pick and has an eye to the next few gameweeks. The Joker will be a differential pick where the only condition is that they must have less than 10% ownership.

I’ll be keeping an eye on how each player performs each week. After the success of GW1 & 2s Bankers, I’ve decided to go back on my original plan and I’ll now be following the Banker pick for 4 weeks again, like I did last season. I’ll also be running a weekly average on how well the selections perform each week. Finally, there will be Guest Picks again from time to time and I’ll be running some Twitter Polls throughout the season where Fantasy Football Geek readers and Twitter followers will be able to vote on who we’re going to pick in each category – keep an eye out for these as the season goes on and feel free to vote!

Here goes – wish me luck!

Gameweek 8 Picks

(Sorry that there has been no Twitter Player Poll this week – with my Wildcard Active I’ve been rather busy, this will return next week!)

Banker – Marko Arnautovic (WHM £7.0m) – bri

4 goals, an assist and 6 bonus points in 6 games ranks Arnie 5th amongst forwards so far. When you consider he’s faced 3 of the big 6 in the 6 matches he’s played, these returns look even better. The fixtures now ease up for The Hammers and it looks like they’re overcoming their rocky start to the season, with creative midfielders Yarmalenko and Anderson finding their EPL feet to supply the big Austrian. He should certainly profit over the next few weeks and he looks a snip at just £7m, the only thing that needs monitoring is his fitness.

Ace – Harry Kane (TOT £12.5m) – CAR

After his brace against Huddersfield last week, it just has to be Harry this week for the visit of the struggling Bluebirds. He may not be posting the same numbers that he has in previous seasons in terms of threat and total shots at goal, but he’s ranking better for shot conversion and I’d expect him to improve his numbers further against the toiling Cardiff defence. The prohibiting factors with Kane are his price and both him and Spurs being fatigued after a tough midweek test against Barcelona. But if you have him in your squad, he must be the prime captain candidate for you this week and I fancy him to bag a decent haul!

Joker – Will Hughes (WAT £5.0) – BOU

Our Joker picks have served us very well over the last few weeks and here’s a 2% owned cheap and cheerful player who I hope will keep up the trend. Attacking midfielder Hughes has been in good form for The Hornets in their strong start to the campaign, with a measly 5 million smackers getting you a goal, an assist and 2 bonus points in the first 7 weeks. This week’s opponents Bournemouth have also started strongly, but haven’t exactly been watertight at the back with Eddie Howe continuing to defy conventional smaller club tactics by playing an attacking style. This should suit the home team this week, with Hughes hopefully being one to profit.

That’s all from me this week folks and good luck!
