Rob Reid with his fantasy premier league GW24 player picks

Hi everyone and welcome to Gameweek 24 Player Picks.

You may recall that last season I ran a weekly article where I selected an Ace, Banker and Joker pick each week. This season I’ve slightly changed the format but I’ll be making my picks along similar lines. The Ace will be a form player who I would heavily favour for captain this week. The Banker is a fixture pick and has an eye to the next few gameweeks. The Joker will be a differential pick where the only condition is that they must have less than 10% ownership.

I’ll be keeping an eye on how each player performs each week. After the success of GW1 & 2s Bankers, I’ve decided to go back on my original plan and I’ll now be following the Banker pick for 4 weeks again, like I did last season. I’ll also be running a weekly average on how well the selections perform each week. Finally, there will be Guest Picks again from time to time and I’ll be running some Twitter Polls throughout the season where Fantasy Football Geek readers and Twitter followers will be able to vote on who we’re going to pick in each category – keep an eye out for these as the season goes on and feel free to vote!

Here goes – wish me luck!

Gameweek 24 Picks

Banker  – Christian Eriksen (TOT £9.4m) – WAT

Spurs may be in the midst of a mini-crisis having just exited both cup competitions in a week and lost key attacking assets Kane and Alli to injury, but I actually think this could be a good time to pick up one of their players. Their next 3 games are at home, followed by Burnley away and their players (with the exception of Trippier) all run at under 10% ownership. Son was explosive pre-Asia Cup but we don’t know how the travel will affect him, so I’m favouring Eriksen for a Banker. He’s gone under the radar a bit this season, but after a slow start he’s returned in 5 of the last 7 and I suspect he’ll continue to be a steady source of points over the next few weeks.

Ace  – Paul Pogba (MAN £8.7m) – BUR

Bang in form with 5 goals, 5 assists and 9 bonus points in his last six matches, it’s no surprise that Pogba has picked up a hefty bandwagon in the last few weeks that’s seen his ownership rocket to a heady 40.4%. United’s amazing run under Solskjaer has to end at some point, but I doubt it will be on Tuesday night. Burnley have picked up in the league of late, but they were thumped 5-0 at the The Ethiad in the cup last weekend and I suspect they’ll struggle to get anything from their second trip to Manchester in a week.

Joker – Gonzalo Higuain (CHE £9.5m) – bou

There has been much clamour around Stamford Bridge for a true Number 9 of late, and it’s probably fair to say that The Blues have never really found one since the halycon days of the first Mourinho era, when Didier Drogba ruled the opposition penalty box. Argentinian international Higuain is the latest to be given the opportunity in the striker role and although he comes with no EPL experience, he’s had significant striking success under manager Sarri at Napoli. His 36 goals for Gli Azzuri in 2015-16 are a Serie A record, a league where defences rule. It wasn’t just a one off either.

He netted 71 goals in 104 appearances in his time at Napoli and he also boasts good records at 2 other major European clubs – 107 in 190 at Real Madrid and 40 in 73 at Juventus. The problem is his more recent form – he’s struggled on loan at Milan this season with only 1 goal in his last 9 games and of course there is the question of how will he adapt to life in the EPL. If he hits the ground running, he could be excellent value and a great differential. Playing away to Bournemouth against one of the worst defences in the league could certainly be a good place to start.

That’s all from me this week on Player Picks, best of luck for this week everyone!
