Sun Dream Team – analysing the top scoring players to date

Sun Dream Team

Before I go and start  recommending players lets look at which Sun Dream Team players have been successful so far this season.  By the way if you’re just coming to the site for the first time, I’m currently in 19,583 position overall out of what I believe is about 1 million  Sun Dream team managers

Below are the top 20 scoring players in Sun Dream Team to see what this can tell us about which players we should be choosing when making out transfers in the Sun Dream Team Transfer window 3.

Position

8 are strikers

However there is no real pattern.  Most of them are the furtherest forward striker as opposed to being a little withdrawn although 2 in Hernandez ad Lukaku haven’t even held down a regular place.

9 are midfielders

Again a bit of a mixture.  There are the players like Mata and Cazorla who run the team and are the most heavily involved in play but also those who have played striker or support striker such as Walcott, Fellaini and Michu.

3 are defenders

So there’s not much value in investing heavily in your goal keepers and defence although with the -1 for every goal scored after the first means that you have to try and pick teams that aren’t going to concede.  Its interesting that the 3 defenders in the top 20 Sun Dream team scorers are players who bring attacking potential to the team

By Team

14/20 are from teams that were either in the Champions league or the Europa league ie Man U, Man City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs and Liverpool.

The other 6 are

Michu – who has been a cut price revelation for Swansea

Baines and Fellaini –  Baines heavy involvement in Evertons play as well as set pieces and penalties means he is one of the few predictable players within outside the above Group

Fellaini – Another cut price revelation who’s been playing as a support striker

Snodgrass – a surprise package who has a heavy involvement in Norwich’s set pieces

Fletcher – A player who has scored a disproportionate amount of Sunderlands goals

Lukaku – a fantastic player who is in the top 20 despite limited game time.

So it seems obvious where to pick our Sun Dream Team players from judging from that – the 6 teams competing for the top 4 spots that are also in Europe.  The rest of the season wont be so clear cut as there will be significantly less European games and the opposition will improve so the dominance in the next phase of Sun Dream Team wont be strong

Price

Interestingly only 12/20 are  £4.0m or above when you can on average spend £4.5m approximately per player which shows that you can balance out the RVPs, Suarezs Matas and Bales with better value players.  5/6 players players mentioned above were all £3.5m or below apart from Baines who is a proven Sun Dream Team performer.

However to prove that spending big is no guarantee of doing well in Sun Dream Team, here’s a telling stat: Of the 17 players that cost £6m or more only 3 made in to the 20 top scoring players above.

Summary

From reviewing the above 20 players who have been the most successful in Sun Dream Team the conclusion are that they are in the main,  strikers and midfielders from the top clubs who have played in European competition.  Defenders however are important in that after the first goal you lose points as you concede. Its not necessary to pay big money though as the most expensive players dont necessarily produce the best results.   I dont expect the points over the next phase of Sun Dream Team to be the same though as there are less European games and the opposition is better.  The same can also be said for the FA cup and the Capital One cup.  The next phase will be far more difficult to pick.

I hope that helps in your thinking for the transfers.  Next were going to look at where the star man and the bonus points go before I start articles on the best players
