With Wayne Rooney injured in my 2nd Sun Dream Team I’ve long and hard thought about what transfer I should do for him.  Here’s a brief article where I go through the options and the timing of it

sun dream team emergency transfer tips – what to do about Rooney

With Rooney injured for 6 weeks (although there was some chat on the Sunday Supplement that he was going to be back earlier but I cant find any evidence of this) he has to go from my 2nd team which is currently  in 2,271 overall position.  Here’s the team to remind you.  I’ve got £6.0m to play with.

So here are the options.  I’m not going to put a load of stats out.  This is mainly a thought dump

Sanchez

A points per game that is only bettered by Kane, Lukaku and Aguero is certainly attractive given that he really hasn’t hit any sort of form so far this season.  Still in the FA Cup with a replay against Hull.  Champions League is tricky though with 2 legs against Barca.  I cant afford him at £6.5m but thought I would put him in the analysis if you are in the same position and can afford him

Man Utd (A)
Swansea (H)
Spurs (A)
West Brom (H)
Everton (A)

Not a  great fixture list made worse by the fact that the home game to WBA is likely to be postponed by the FA Cup quarters

Lukaku

2nd only to Aguero in points per game.  If I was going to put him in it should have been yesterday in the FA Cup against Bournemouth.  No European games but through the FA Cup.  Will suffer premier league postponements though with no game next week and another postponed for the quarters.  Only £4.5m

Gameweek 27 –
Aston Villa (A)
West Ham (H)
Sunderland (A)
Arsenal (H)

Unfortunately the Sunderland game will be postponed for the FA Cup quarters

Costa

Again £6.5m so can’t afford him.  Tough 2nd game against PSG in the UCL but could get through the FA Cup as City by all accounts will play a weakened team.  In great form even though a horrible points per game which would have been mainly from the early season

Southampton (A)
Norwich (A)
Stoke (H)
Liverpool (A)
West Ham (H)
Aston Villa (A)

If they get through the FA Cup the postponed game will be the Liverpool game.  Pretty good fixtures and a good option for my money

Giroud

Still in the FA Cup with a replay against Hull although Giroud is a big rotation risk and a job share risk with Walcott although that seems to be declining.  Champions League is tricky though with 2 legs against Barca.  Quite a poor points per game record considering it’s been a good season.  Minutes issues earlier in the season could have been a reason for that

Man Utd (A)
Swansea (H)
Spurs (A)
West Brom (H)
Everton (A)

Not a  great fixture list made worse by the fact that the home game to WBA is likely to be postponed by the FA Cup quarters

Sturridge

If Chelsea progress in the FA Cup game the Chelsea fixture below will be postponed. They do have the Cap 1 final next weekend though and the 3 Europa League fixtures with a good chance going through against Ausburg.   Another player with a horrible points per game which is hard to take to seriously with early season injury.  It’s just the injury position and the minutes he plays that’s the issue.  Fixtures are not great and Liverpool are an unpredictable team with Firmino in my sqaud already

Gameweek 27 –
Man City (H)
Crystal Palace (A)
Chelsea (H)
Southampton (A)

Vardy

No extra fixtures just great form.  No postponements though. 5th on points per game.  Very good fixtures though in the premier league

Norwich (H)
West Brom (H)
Watford (A)
Newcastle (H)
Crystal Palace (A)

Martial

Should play in the striker position with Rooney.  Terrible points per game record in a very inconsistent attacking team at it’s kindest.  Not really a long term solution but good fixtures even though behind in the Europa and Shrewsbury in the FA Cup which he will have to play given the perilous state of LVG’s tenure

Arsenal (H)
Watford (H)
West Brom (A)
Crystal Palace (H)
Man City (A)

Crystal Palace is the game likely to be lost assuming they don’t lose to Shrewsbury in the FA Cup.  Fixtures otherwise a bit mixed.

So what will I do?

So not sure what I’m going to do at the moment.  I can’t afford Costa (although not totally sure he will start today anayway) and no one in the West Ham or Spurs team is on the radar.  So no need to make a decision at the moment.  It’s between Giroud, Sturridge, Vardy and Martial at the moment.  If money wasn’t an onject I would probably gamble on Costa

Hope you found this helpful or at least gave some food for thought
