Here’s my view of the best goalkeepers and defenders in Sun Dream Team
As you’ll know if youre reading this Sun Dream team covers the the domestic and European Cups as well as the premier league. With this in mind and the fact that you only have 12 transfers for the whole season I’ve tried to concentrate on teams with European fixtures in order to generate maximum matches.
Remember Swansea and Spurs are in the Europa league and Man Utd, Man City, Arsenal and Chelsea are in the Champions league.
Goalkeeper
As goals against means points against then picking sides who don’t concede much is stating the obvious. Also picking a keeper without a good backup is also an advantage to avoid rotation in the cups.
Mignolet (£3.0m)
- last years stats: Points Per Game 2.3. Starman awards 1. % of 7 ratings or more 53%
Remember those stats are from Sunderland who were a train wreck as far as defence was concerned. No European games for Liverpool but great value at £3.0m compared to the other elite keepers. Little competition so will not be subjet to much rotation even in the domestic cups which Rodgers will be looking to win.
LLoris (£4.0m)
- last years stats: Points Per Game 2.6. Starman awards 1. % of 7 ratings or more 45%
Will have Europa league games and only the ageing Friedel as back up so expect lots of games and lots of clean sheets
Jaaskelainen £2.0m)
- last years stats: Points Per Game 2.1. Starman awards 1. % of 7 ratings or more 43%
The best of the cheap options in my mind. In his price range had the best points per game returns and % of 7 points. Has a very defensive mined manager as well.
By the way I’m not choosing
Cech (£5.5m) – Very expensive and relies on alot of games to justify the value. Has a good understudy in Schwarzer and now I think he will be rotated far more than last year
De Gea (£5.5m) – As for Cech, expensive with a good understudy and will be rotated
Vorm (£3.0m) – Good value but has a good understudy in Tremmel who will rotate
Defenders
Again the returns per game are better in the attacking players rather than go all out in defence. Again though you can’t go too far the other way as you will end up getting negative points so getting value in the better teams is crucial
Gibbs (£3.5m)
- last years stats: Points Per Game 3.2 Starman awards 0. % of 7 ratings or more 55%
Good value and good returns compared to the other Arsenal defenders and Sun Dream Team really seem to like him judging by his 55% 7 or more ratings return. Has rotation risk with Monreal as does the rest of the Arsenal team but worth the risk for returns and value
Rose (£3.0m)
- last years stats: Points Per Game 3.1 Starman awards 4 % of 7 ratings or more 52%
Very good returns last year considering the terrible defence he was part of. Seems to have nailed the LB spot in pre-season and great value.
Chico (£2.5m)
- last years stats: Points Per Game 3.5 Starman awards 3 % of 7 ratings or more 56%
Cheaper than his colleague Williams but just as good returns. Loved by Sun Dream Team and has the extra games of the Europa league
M Turner (£1.5m)
- last years stats: Points Per Game 2.2 Starman awards 0 % of 7 ratings or more 41%
The best of the very cheap defenders for me where the pickings are pretty slim. Has the ability to score as well.
Terry (£5.0m)
- last years stats: Points Per Game 5.0 Starman awards 1 % of 7 ratings or more 61%
Jeez do Sun Deam Team really love this guy. The best points per game stat of any defender although on the back of very few games. It all depends on whether you think he’ll get more games this season. Luiz doesn’t seem to be Mourinho’s favourite and Ivanovic will provide the cover at RB so injury permitting he may get more than you think.
Zabaleta (£5.5m)
- last years stats: Points Per Game 3.1 Starman awards 1 % of 7 ratings or more 42%
Probably the best City pick. Good fixtures to start the season should see clean sheets even if Pellegrini is more attacking than last year.
By the way I’m not picking….
Any Man Utd defender – difficult to know who will play and with tricky fixtures to start will be good to see a pattern emerge before purchasing
Thats it. I’m on to midfielders and forwards next
