Here’s my view of the best midfilders in Sun Dream Team transfer window 1.  I’ve given a number of stats to help you make your choice for your team as well.

Sun Dream Team transfer window 1 tips – the midfield options

The teams in the European competitions will have 4 extra games over the 8 games in the premier league.  Given that 16 of 20 players were in the European competitions it’s no surprise that virtually all of the players below are in the European competitions as we start the Group stages.  It’s very different to the current points table but it’s worth remembering that were only 3 games in and Robbie Brady will not be anything like the the 4th placed midfielder at the end of the season as he is now.

KEY:

1. Rank: My view of their rank given the various stats
2. Cost: Their cost in Sun Dream Team
3. PPG 13/14:   The total points divided by the games played for 13/14. The higher the better. The Sun Dream Team supplies games including sub appearances which makes the information a bit distorted.  I don’t have the information for some players and some weren’t in the premier league last season
4. PPG 14/15:  As above except 14/15
5. Euro Comps:  The European competetions the team is in.  UCL is the Champions League and EL is the Europa League
6. The % of 7+ plus awards of their total games. I’ve supplied 13/14 and 14/15 when the information is available.  I’ve put NA when they weren’t in the league last year and unkn if I dont have the info.  This gives a general indication of Sun Dream Teams view of the player
7. The % of Starman awards. As for above I’ve given 13/14 when available or applicable.  Again this gives a general view of the players starman potential
8. Fixture ease. This is the rank of how easy their fixtures are to the 2nd transfer window. If you remember the article then it groups teams by how many of the lower placed teams of last year are in the games to the first transfer window.

Sterling

Great start to the season with 2 goals in his first 3 games.  Good premier league fixtures to TW2 and not a bad Champions League Group.  With Ballotelli joining he will probably play centrally behind the pair of Sturridge and Balotelli. Currently 3rd in the midfield rankings

Ramsey

The box to box sensation of last year has started like he left off with 2 goals in 4 games  and looks like nothing has changed.  Amazing ability to find space against packed defences and lethal on the break.  5th in the midfield rankings

Hazard

Has started slowly ranked 17th in the midfielders apart from a fantastic game against Leicester.  He is important to Mourinho and will be played as much as possible by the manager.  Reasonable fixtures in the premier league and a good Champions League group.

Fabregas

Seems to be liked by the Sun Dream Team so far on the basis of his 2 7+ and his 1 Star Man award.  Has to step up and score goals though to really make his mark and thats the question over him given his deeper lying position.  Thats why despite some great performances he’s still only 25th in the midfield rankings.  However, looked like he was trying to shoot and get into the box in last 2 games so there is hope.

Silva

A player who doesn’t score alot of goals but is loved by Sun Dream Team.  Started the season in that vein with a 100% 7+ rating.  This has given him a solid 11th place start in the midfield rankings.  Tough Champions League Group and premier league fixtures and the lack of goals is the main risk area around him.

Gerrard

His deep lying position and the absence of Suarez to earn pens has made him a risky choice.  It’s also been a fairly ordinary start and despite scorng 1 pen he is only 30 in the rankings for Sun Dream Team midfilders.  Only 1 7+ rating is the mystery at the moment for someone who was loved by Sun Dream Team last year.  Another risk area is that he’s  a year older so rotation maybe a risk especially with the purchase of Emre Can.  Retiring from International foodtball will assist his longevity though.  However the key is that Liverpool have good premier league fixtures and a good Champions League Group and this is what puts him back in the frame.

YYT

Gerrards start couldn’t be better compared to YYT.  YYT’s had a disaster and is currently ranked 53 in the midfield rankings.  With Fernando joining he was expected to be the sitting CDM that would allow YYT to get forward even more.  That just hasn’t happened and we’ve yet to see any goals in the first 3 games.  However it’s impossible to write off last season after 3 games and despite tricky fixtures in the league and Champions league he still rates in the top 10

Lamela

Great value at £3.0m and has started well despite not scoring with 2 7+ awards and 1 starman award so far in his first 4.  Currently ranked 11th of the midfielders which is a reasonably solid start.  With his injury record we may not see him alot in the Europa League or the domestic Cups which is the main risk.

Chadli

Currently the 5th ranked midfielder based mainly on his 2 goal haul against QPR.  He is a baragin at £2,5m and has the security of the Europa League if his form doesn’t hold and he loses his first team place.  Currently playing in quite an advanced position on the flank but drifting in.

Di Maria

Started well from the Sun Dream Team point of view and has the talent and the fixtures to impress.  Risk is him potentially starting from a deeper position with the 3 forwards in the squad.  Also the lack of European fixtures won’t help but he does have good premier league fixtures
