Sun Dream Team transfer window 3- best goalkeepers and defenders

Sun Dream Team

Here’s my view of the best Sun Dream Team GKs and defenders for transfer window 3.   I’ve included some stats analysis and commentary to help your transfer window decisions

Sun Dream Team analysis background

I’ve just listed the GKs with just their price and a bit of commentary but on the defenders I’ve given the following stats so you can make your own assessment

1 Total Sun Dream Team points

2.  The Sun Dream Team defensive ranking.  This is just their ranking by points total

3.  The points per game.  The Sun Dream Team supplies games including sub appearances which makes the information a bit distorted.

4.  The % of 7+  plus awards of their total games.

I’ve then attempted  to rank them although obviously you will have your own views.  I’ve also provided a bit of commentary.

Goalkeepers

I think you should go with the budget keepers as they don’t score particularly well and there is normally defensive coverage elsewhere in the team at a better price.  Only 1 of the top 20 scorers is a GK.

Boruc £1.5m

Reasonably good all round defence and Boruc seems to be the favoured keeper even though he had a bit of a nightmare in the Sunderland game.  Still in the FA Cup although Davis seems to sub for him in this

 Mannone £1.5m

An improved defence thanks to  Poyet who’s an excellent defensive coach.  Still in the FA Cup and an additional game in the Capital One Cup final

Defenders

1.  Sagna £3.5m   points:117    Def Rank 3     PPG  4.3     7+ awards – 59%

The Arsenal defence is the best in the league in my view and Sagna catches the eye with his forward runs.  Interestingly with Walcott injured he can be even more attacking not having to cover his advanced position.

2. John Terry £5.0m points:116    Def Rank 4.1     PPG  4.1     7+ awards – 46%

Chelsea have turned the corner defensively as Mourinho adjusted his tactics after the Sunderland game especially when they conceded 3.  Terry has started every premier league game although is rested for the FA Cup.  Good champions league draw with Galatasary.

3.  Coleman  £3.0m    points:117    Def Rank 3     PPG  4.7     7+ awards – 56%

The star defensive performer this season with his attacking exploits.  Has an injury which doesn’t seem to be serious.  Everton are my 3rd choice defensive team and Coleman is defeinitely the best choice.  Still in the FA Cup

4.  Kolarov £3.0m   points:94    Def Rank 8     PPG  3.6     7+ awards – 39%

The low returns are mainly due to sub appearances.  Seems to have made the LB position his own although will be rotated.  Great attacking potential

5.  Rose £2.5m    points:56    Def Rank 31     PPG  4.0     7+ awards –50%

Been injured most of the year which is the reason for the low points.  Fantastic value and has a good Europa Cup draw against Dnipro

A few budget options

1.  Curtis Davies £1.0m  points:78    Def Rank 15     PPG  3.5     7+ awards – 77%

An absolute budget star for the man from the team with the best home defence in my view.  Loved by Sun Dream Team

2. Fonte £1.0m  points:57    Def Rank 30     PPG  2.6     7+ awards – 41%

The Southampton defence is reasonably good home and away.  With Lovren injured, Luke Shaw too expensive and the RB position influx then Fonte looks the best budget option

3. Bardsley £1.0m  points: 49    Def Rank 39     PPG  2.5     7+ awards – 35%

As I said above an improving defence under Poyet who did wonders defensively at Brighton.  Bardsley is my pick for his attacking potential.
