Telegraph fantasy football “ones to watch” – game week 5

Player Rankings, Telegraph fantasy football

Here’s the GW5 telegraph fantasy football “ones to watch”. This is a menu of players to pick from for your team with factors stating why.

Below each position if applicable is a “bubbling under” category for monitoring certain players before they are added to the “ones to watch” list.  Remember these are telegraph fantasy football  players I would have in my team. At the bottom is a key if you want a bit more detail on the factors listed

So you can work out what’s going from last week on Ive put the players moving out in strike through and italics for players being added.

GOALKEEPER

Hart   £4.0m  – quality

Howard  £3.4m –  value fixtures

Begovic    £3.0m  –  budget

Jaaskelainen, J £3.0m budget

Comment – Hart still seems the best bet here despite the poor start.  With negative points for goals in telegraph fantasy football you’ve got to try for quality.

DEFENCE

Rafael   £5.5m – value. attack  Great value but a game time risk

Distin   £3.2m – fixtures and value.  Seems to be holding his place

Reither  £3.0m – value fixtures

Jenkinson  £2.8m  – value.  Tough fixtures but better defence from Arsenal. Difficult fixtures and will lose position when Sagna back but good until then

Gallas   £3.2m fixtures value.  Bit of a game time risk but great value and Kaboul injured

Ridgewell  £3.1m fixtures.  attack.  value.  WBA are showing strong defence and with fixtures getting better Ridgewell gives you clean sheet potential plus goals

Baines   £4.1m  quality.  attack.  If you’ve got some cash up our sleeve Baines attacking prospects plus the “contribution” assist rules means that during Evertons outstanding run of fixtures you could do worse that gamble on Baines attacking plus clean sheet returns

Gibbs   £3.7m   – CS  – the improved Arsenal defence  demands coverage although wait to  see off City away and Chelsea at home.   Gibbs is the best long term value bet here.

Again the negative points for goals conceded in telegraph fantasy football means that you do need a side capable of clean sheets.  Ive gone for top 6ish sides with good fixtures above

However if youre going for or need a budget option big Sams negative approach will hopefully bring clean sheets.  Demel at £2.6m is the most secure game time wise and  Reid at £2.9m, although more of a game time risk, offers better attacking potential

MIDFIELD

Hazard   £4.3m – Quality. form.

Bale  £5.5 – Quality. fixtures.  Finally returned some points.  QPR H and AVL H in the next 3 are just too enticing to sell

Kagawa  £4.1m –   A rotation risk and poor fixtures

Michu  £3.3m – value form.

Kacaniklic   £2.6m budget  fixtures – 2 assists last week plus Richardson injured virtually guarantees game time

Pienaar   £3.6m – fixtures. form value

Fellaini  £3.8m form. fixtures. Played in an advanced position again. Good underlying stats too.   Jelavic inury will give further comfort to an advanced position

Nolan  £3.3m  – form.  fixtures.

Guthrie  £2.7m – budget.   Best choice with Kacaniklic

Diaby  £2.8m – budget. form

Schneiderlin   £2.8m  – budget. Secure with little return

Carzola   £3.2m value. Fixtures V Good after  City away and Chelsea at home and  outstanding value.

Morrison  £3.8m fixtures.  form.  A little expensive and underlying stats not as impressive as last year but fixtures should bring him to the fore. The most advanced midfielder in the WBA team

Lallana   £3.3m fixtures. Good fixtures start here with a home game to Villa.  His underlying stats are good and he’s starting to play further up the pitch.

Bubbling under:

Puncheon £2.4m  budget.  An attacking threat for Saints and mind boggling value. Only question is Do Prado game time risk.  monitor as fixtures about to get better

Sterling £2.6m budget.  Can he hold his place with Cole and Assaidi coming back to fitness.  The others playing in the Europa league and him rested suggests more game time there

Gera  £2.6m budget.  Not making the team at the moment but has attacking potential at a budget if he does.

Dempsey  £4.3m fixtures quality.  With a limited pre-season just need to see when he will make his first start.  Outstanding value and a viable swap for Bale when he starts

Adam   £3.7m  A little expensive but has the potential to monopolise set pieces and free kicks.  Plenty of time to monitor as fixtures are a mile off becoming ok

FORWARDS

Tevez   £6.4m  quality. form.

RVP   £7.0m   QUALITY no game time risk with Rooney injury

Adebayor  £5.6m fixtures.  value.  hopefully should start away to Reading in GW4 injury

Jelavic  £5.8m – fixtures quality injury

Vaz Te   £3.4m  – budget.  fixtures

Lambert  £4.9m – fixtures. form.  A little expensive but better fixtues start with home game to Villa.  A threat from set pieces and with Pen duties hes another option if you dont want to spend big.

 Berbatov   £5.2m  quality.  fixtures.form.

Defoe   £5.4m – fixtures.  Form.  quality.   I wouldn’t have seen him as a lone striker but showed real quality against Reading.  Adebayor injury and form will see him start.

Podolski   £5.9m Form. quality.  A little on the expensive side especially if on the left flank.  I would wait until City A and Chelsea H are over but no doubting his form

Bubbling under

Lukaku  £3.5m Budget. Watch him to see if he can get starts.  He is some player.  Fixtures are good just needs a chance

Aguero   £6.7mm.  QUALITY fixtures improving just monitor starts and role

Rodallega  £4.3m – fixtures.  value.  Has the potential if selected.  Need to monitor game time.

KEY

quality – an elite player for his position
value – a player at a value that is less than the returns I expect
fixtures – a player facing good fixtures over the next 6 games
budget – filler at the minimum price the position allows. Should play
sleeping giant – a player with past form who may have had a quiet season last year but has the potential for far greater returns than his value
YC – card magnet
DGW – has 2 games in the specified game week
pre-season – has pre-season form
pens – should take penalties
short term – will only play for a few games
Form – current form
