52 gameweek points, total points 671, Overall rank 1,725 transfers available 28

A middle of the road sort of week with 52 points scored, placed 1725 overall and 28 transfers remaining.

Liverpool disappointed in attack but assists galore in defence and there is no bigger bonus in the game than an assist from the goalkeeper. Ben Chillwell coming in a few weeks ago was a good move, but I’d rather forget about my decision to bring in Luke Shaw who is now suspended to boot.

With Mendy having now evolved into crock from a shark I have a replacement to ponder. As I write I am thinking a straight swap to Laporte or a cheaper Wolves or Everton defender which would allow me to upgrade Chillwell in due course. Much will depend on the team lineups on Saturday with everyone seemingly an injury doubt. A lot to consider. Here’s to a good gameweek !

47 Gameweek points Total Pts 673 Overall rank 1,563 Transfers available 26

Last week was my first week below 50 points since mid September, although 47 points was not terrible, I dropped in the ranks about 300 places to 1.5K. This mainly because of the high ownership of Liverpool defenders + Alison, all of them having 10 pointers last week, except Gomez, the one I own. I actually transferred him in this week as a reaction to Trippier injury.

As for future changes this week, I currently have 3 flagged players in my team. This is not great, but I am hopeful that just Mendy will need imminent replacing. With City and Liverpool playing 3 of the next 4 away and given that I already have a defender of each, I am thinking to go with Doherty in place of Mendy. However Doherty himself is also is flagged. Digne could be my backup here. Or, I could replace with an attacker, Jimenez at £3.7 or Felipe Anderson at £3.4 are good enablers, but I like more the look of Martial over the next few gameweeks, but guess what ? He is also flagged. Too many ‘internationalitis’ around I think.

As for Maddison, I am hoping he recovers from injury so that he can just stay in the team. If this wasn’t the case, he would go for one of the monitor players already mentioned. The final move I am planning to make over the next few weeks is to bring in Kane for Lacazette once Spurs start their great run of fixtures. However the next couple of weeks don’t provide any opportunity for gaining an extra game with the move and also Arsenal will have great fixtures. So maybe bring Kane for Aguero? Something to think about, I will be keeping Lacazette for now at least. Spurs have Chelsea and Arsenal next, so no rush on it.

Good luck for GW13 Geekers!

Team review

It was all looking good for a clean sweep of clean sheets, until Ederson decided to come flying out, giving away another penalty. After doing that again, you would think he would at least have the good grace to save it. At least my Liverpool double up fared better, Robertson also earning an assist.

The middle of the park was a bit sparse, with Hazard and Richarlison both stuck on 2 points, and Maddison being injured. This was partially why I made a rather bold move on Sunday. I had been weighing up the worth of keeping Salah, and was also keen to bring in Sterling. With Salah playing and scoring in the early kick off, it just seemed like the perfect time to make the change. Luckily for me, TFF is often generous with their KC’s, awarding two of them to Sterling, resulting in an eight point bonus for me. Up front it was business as usual for Aguero, but an unusually quiet game for Arnautovic. Barring injury, I am planning to stick with Arny long term. I think he’s one of those players you just need to stick with, otherwise you are forever missing his purple patches.

Team thoughts for this week

It does feel like I might be leaving myself open, ending up with no Liverpool attackers. I thought long and hard about the transfer from Salah to Sterling, and it came down to simple logic. Sterling is better value right now. He does everything that Salah does, but at the moment he’s doing it better and for a slightly lower price.

That slightly lower price also makes my next plan possible. I’m looking at changing Alonso for Doherty, thus freeing up another £1.4m. That leaves me the necessary funds to upgrade Maddison to Martial. I know some people might squeal at the thought of dumping Alonso, but I would argue that now is a good time to make that change. Alonso isn’t exactly exploding with attacking returns, and there’s not actually much between Alonso and Doherty in the stats department.

The clincher for me was Wolves upcoming fixtures: Huddersfield (H), Cardiff (A), Chelsea (H), Newcastle (A), Bournemouth (H). There are plenty of opportunities there for clean sheets, not to mention attacking returns; especially when you look at Wolves efforts against Arsenal. The other magic bonus where TFF is concerned, is that Chelsea play on Saturday, and Wolves play on Sunday, presenting a perfect transfer point between the games.

Also, with regards to Maddison to Martial, United are at home to Crystal Palace. Leicester are away to Brighton. They both kick off at 15:00pm, so I can check teams before making that change.

Here are the options in simple comparison.

Salah or Sterling? At the moment I’m siding with Sterling.

Maddison or Martial? Currently no competition.

Alonso or Doherty? I would rather have Alonso given the choice; but taking the price difference in to account, there’s not much in it.

So that’s the plan.

Good luck everyone, and may your arrows be Norwich shorts.
