UCL fantasy – an early look at some player options for the knock out phases

The UEFA Champions League starts again on February 18 and so does the official UCL fantasy game for the knock out phases. Here are a few suggestions for players going forward.

First here’s a reminder of the round of 16 fixtures

Goalkeeper

Szczesny – Juventus 5.5m

When it comes to defence it’s hard to look past Juventus although this season although both Inter and Lazio have both conceded less goals as the players adjust to new manager Sarri’s regimented tactics . The former Arsenal stopper is short odds on https://www.betway.co.zm/fantasy  for the win and clean sheet.

Defenders

Gosens – Atalanta – 4.3m

While Atalanta aren’t likely to win they have a good chance of getting through against Valencia and providing a clean sheet along the way. Gosens provides a cheap defender and has regularly been playing left midfield for Atalanta.

Alexander Arnold – Liverpool – 6.8m

It’s hard to imagine how someone so young can be the creative fulcrum of the European and World Champions but that is the situation for the Liverpool right back. A good tie against Atletico Madrid for attacking returns and clean sheets who haven’t been as strong in La Liga this season as they currently sit in 5th

Pavard – Bayern Munich – 5.5m

The 23 year old French International with Kimmich has the most attacking returns for Bayern defenders in the Bundesliga but leads Kimmich for points in UCL fantasy. Chelsea have had mixed fortunes with their attack and he could also benefit from their set piece issues this season

Midfield

Salah – Liverpool – 11.1m

Atletico Madrid have only conceded 14 goals in La Liga so far this season with only their neighbours Real conceding less. However you can never underestimate Salah’s ability to score, especially at Anfield for what will be the 2nd leg.

De Bruyne Manchester City – £10.5m

With the chances of retaining the Premier League having long faded into the distance you can expect Guardiola to concentrate on the Champions League and ensure the likes of De Bruyne are fresh enough to give their best in every tie. That assumes they can get past the first tricky test of an improving Real Madrid who currently lead La Liga

Gnabry Bayern Munich – £8.2m

The German winger formerly of Arsenal has been on fire for Bayern this season with 7 goals in the Bundesliga and 4 in the Champions League although all 4 did come at the expense of his former neighbours in Spurs. Expect him to give whoever Chelsea have in the problem left back position a very hard time

Son – Spurs – £9.7m

I wouldn’t expect Spurs to get to the final again but Son is a decent prospect against Leipzig especially if he is filling in as striker for the injured Harry Kane. Leipzig lead the Bundesliga but only Dortmund of the top 5 teams have conceded more goals.

Forwards

Lewandoski – Bayern – £10.8m

Looks like he could easily retain his place at the top of the table for Champions League top scorers this season as he faces the Chelsea defence who have conceded as much as any team in the premier league top 8 at the moment. That would be an incredible double if he is able to hold off Leipzigs Timo Werner who is 1 goal behind his current total of 21 goals in the Bundesliga

Messi – Barcelona – £11.5m

It’s hard to look past Messi when you get to the business end of the Champions League. An early season injury has slowed his goals down this season in La Liga but he still has 14 goals from 16 appearances including 2 hat tricks. In the Champions League qualifiers he was also his efficient self with 2 goals and 3 assists in the 5 games

Haaland – Dortmund –

The Norwegian international, who has scored 28 times in 22 games this season, will be able to play against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League round of 16 following a change in the rule around January signings. He’s 2nd favourite to Lewandoski on Betway to be top scorer in the Champions League with his 8 goals to date vs Lewandoski’s 10
