World Cup 2014 fantasy football tips – Day 15 review
Portugal 2 Ghana 1
As neither side have progressed I wont be covering this match
USA 0 Germany 1
Goals: Muller
Lineups:
Germany: Neuer; Boateng, Hummels, Mertesacker, Howedes; Lahm, Schweinsteiger (Gotze 75), Kroos; Podolski (Klose 46), Ozil (Schurrle 88), Muller
Substitutes: Zieler (GK), Weidenfeller (GK), Grosskreutz, Ginter, Khedira, Draxler, Durm, Mustafi, Kramer
United States: Howard; Johnson, Gonzalez, Besler, Beasley; Jones (Bedoya 58), Bradley, Beckerman, Davis, Zusi (Yedlin 83); Dempsey
Substitutes: Guzan (GK), Rimando (GK), Brooks, Johannsson, Diskerud, Green, Wondolowski, Cameron, Chandler
Lineup comment:
Germany: Schweinsteiger came in for Khedira. Podolski came in for Goetze
USA: Gonzalez came in for the hapless Cameron. Davis came in for Bedoya
Match comment:
A game that Germany dominated with USA looking to stay deep and compact and rely on the break. Germany had the majority of the chances and eventually scored through Muller
Player comment:
Germany will play Algeria. USA will play Belgium
Muller
4 goals and scored again. A must have.
The German defence
A clean sheet although they hardly had much resistance. Defence should be Mertesacker, Humells, Howedes and Boateng. Howedes is the budget option.
Dempsey
A cheap option in TFF as a mid but probably wont progress
Jones
A cheap option who lead the counter
Sun Dream Team scoring:
USA: 7’s for Howard, Besler, Gonzalez, Jones and Bradley.
Germany: 7’s for Neuer, Mertesacker, Hummels, Lahm and Ozil. Kroos was the Star Man with 8
Algeria 1 Russia 1
Goals: Slimani/Kokorin Assists: Brahimi/Kombarov
Russia are out. Algeria will play Germany so their chances of progressing are slim
Lineups (lineups and ratings from the Daily Mail):
Russia: Akinfeev 6; Kozlov 6, Ignashevich 6.5, Berezutskiy 6, Kombarov 6; Samedov 6, Glushakov 6 (Denisov, 46, 6), Faizulin 7, Shatov 6 (Dzagoev 67); Kerzakhov 6.5, Kokorin 7
Subs not used: Lodygin (GK), Ryzhikov (GK), Shchennikov, Semenov, Kanunnikov,Granat, Mogilevetc, Zhirkov, Ionov, Eschenko
Booked: Kozlov, Kombarov
Algeria: Mbolhi 7; Belkalem 6, Halliche 6, Mandi 6, Mesbah 6; Medjani 6.5, Bentaleb 6.5, Feghouli 6.5, Brahimi 7.5 (Yebda 71), Djabou 6; Slimani 7
Subs not used: Si Mohammed (GK), Zemmamouche (GK), Bouguerra, Ghoulam, Lacen, Ghilas, Soudani, Cadamuro, Taider, Mahrez, Mostefa
Booked: Mesbah
Lineup comment:
Algeria: Only change from the last game was Belkalem for Bougherra
Match comment:
A game that Russia dominated early but another GK error let Algeria back in as they pressed for an equaliser late in the game
Player comment:
Given that Algeria will play Germany and unlikely to progress players from there come with an early transfer risk. However 2 players standout:
Slimani
The top goal scorer for Algeria in qualifying and an excellent international record. 2 goals and an assist in 2 starts is impressive but the Group was weak.
Feghouli
Penalty taker and an attacking midfielder with a good qualifying and International record. A goal(pen) and an assist in 3 starts to date. A forward in Fox but a cheap midfielder in TFF.
Sun Dream Team scoring:
Algeria: Star Man was Slimani with an 8. 7’s for everyone else except Medjani and Mesbah
South Korea 0 Belgium 1
Goal: Vertonghen
South Korea will go out. Belgium will play the USA in the last 16
Lineups:
South Korea: S G Kim, S Y Yun, Y G Kim, H M Son (Ji 73), Y Lee, J C Koo, K Y Han (K H Lee 46), S Y Ki, C Y Lee, S W Kim (B K Kim 66), J H Hong.
Belgium: Courtois, Vanden Borre, Van Buyten, Lombaerts, Vertonghen, Defour, Fellaini, Dembele, Mertens (Origi 59), Mirallas (Hazard 87), Januzaj (Chadli 60).
Lineup comment:
Belgium made multiple changes confident that they would go through. Easier to say who started from the last game. That was Courtois, Van Buyten, Fellaini and Mertens
Match comment:
Belgium had a reasonable control of the game even with 10 men afer the sending off and playing a second straing team
Player comment:
With a good draw going forward Hazard and De Bruyne are the best targets attacking wise. Lukaku has a problem with his place against Origi.
Begium defence
A good option against the USA but they will probably meet Argentina in the Quarters. The defence will probably be Alderweireld, Kompany, Vertonghen and Van Buyten
I’ll be doing some knock out previews for the different formats next.
Enjoy the day off!
