McDonalds

Total points 160.  Overall rank 113k Bench boost active.  No Wildcard or Maximum captain used

4 players yesterday for 6 points which was pretty disappointing. A paltry 4k improvement in rank.

Knockout phase changes

You need to make your captain changes and substitutions before the first kick off of 3pm UK time Monday 2 July

Make sure you make the changes in the round of 16 tab.  It defaults to the quarters so it’s easy to make them in the wrong area especially on the desk top version

I’m using my bench boost this round and my wildcard before the quarters.  You can use the WC with the chips so I may use max captain at the quarters too.

As I’m using the bench boost I wont bother making substitutions.  I believe this is how Rob Reid is doing it as well

I’m also sticking with the captain for today.  I’m not changing it to either of the Brazilians or Belgians.

Here’s the team as it is now.  I can’t imagine I will make any changes but if I do I  will at least tweet any changes probably around 2pm UK time

Miranda, Coutinho, Neymar, Lukaku and Meunier playing today.

Sun Dream Team

Total points 233 Overall Rank 32k  transfers used 14 out of 20

In retrospect you can transfer a player for a game after the first 1 in a match day as long as the player out’s team hasn’t played on the matchday and the player in’s team hasn’t played on the match day.  Here’s the rules which I think I interpreted incorrectly at first.    The Sun Live chat have verified it as did some other managers who have used it so it seems safe

An eligible transfer will take immediate effect and will occur if you transfer a Player out for another Player where neither the outgoing Player’s Country nor the incoming Player’s Country have played during that Match Day.

If you’re looking for stats on potential players for today here are my key articles with stats mainly for their clubs.  Remember though they were done prior to the tournament so you need to see at the very least that they played in the Group stages and appear in the probable lineups below

Transfers

Spain going out was not helpful for the transfer situation meaning I have 3 players now redundant in Ramos, Carvajal and Isco.

The transfer in of Modric would have been great if he hadn’t missed the penalty.  In the end his unmerited 7 rating negated the  penalty miss so at least I didn’t get negative points

Today I’m planning on changing formation to 3-4-3 and bringing in Brazil midfielder Coutinho in  and Belgian midfielder Hazard in for their matches.  That would leave me with just 4 transfers.  That means bringing in a Belgian defender of either Meunier/Alderweireld with Brazil next looks a luxury transfer I can’t afford.  I now really need England to win as Colombia beating them would cause massive problems for my team with 3 England players in it (not to mention the countries disappointment!)

I’m likely to make the transfers mentioned above.  I will tweet them probably around 2pm or  6pm UK time

Here’s the team as of today with yesterdays points.

The standard team:  Total points 239 Overall Rank 24.4k  transfers used 0 out of 20 in for the remainder of the tournament

The Def Block team:  Total points 245 Overall Rank 21.6k  transfers used 0 out of 20 in for the remainder of the tournament

In the telegraph you definitely can make transfers between matches.

the standard team

So not a great day with Spain going out.

Today I will be transferring the Spanish LB Alba out for either Fagner the Brazilian defender or Boyata the Belgian defender.  If Fagner starts then I will transfer him in.

Those are price related transfers as I will be looking to bring in Belgian striker Lukaku for the eliminated Spain striker Costa and I need the funds.

I will at least tweet those transfers probably around 2pm or 6pm UK time.

Here’s how the team would look.  Transfers unconfirmed

the defensive block team

Well the big gamble on Spain’s defence failed miserably thanks to Pique’s inexplicable use of his hand.

I’ve decided to continue with the block theory out of interest.  I did think about using the England team as a block defence given their side of the draw but I’m a little hesitant over their defence so I’ll go for a Brazil block.  Plus I will also change Spanish midfielder Isco to Brazil striker Neymar through a formation change from 4-5-1 to 4-4-2.

Here’s the team with transfers unconfirmed.  I will at least tweet all the transfers around 2pm UK time or 6pm if I do some Belgian transfers.
