Quarter Final Review – 84 points; OR 27k
On paper, 7/11 returns looks good but unfortunately my rank stayed fairly static probably down to a combination of high ownership stats and a lot of Clean Sheet Boosters in play. It was disappointing after getting nothing from the Clean Sheet Booster in the R16 to see a potential 20 points in this round lost. My luck has certainly deteriorated since a strong R32, but such is the way of things with this game. Onwards to the semi-finals then.
Here’s the points

Semi Final Team
Two games that are too close to call then. Spain v France matches the 2 teams with the best defensive records – Spain have conceded once and France have conceded twice so far so you’d think this game could be a cagey one. The trade-off to this is the last time these 2 team met in a competitive fixture – a 5-4 slugfest in the Nations’ League semi-final last year which was one of the most entertaining international games I’ve watched!
As for the second fixture, on paper this looks the more open game with both teams hardly covering themselves in glory defensively. The game does come with a distinct edge though with history and some iconic World Cups of the past hanging heavily over the head of England in particular – think The Hand of God, the greatest World Cup goal every score, Beckham’s kick on Simeone and the Beckham’s redemption 4 years on. Yup, this one could be very interesting and maybe it will be a tight, more nervy affair.
At this stage, all 4 of these teams have 2 games left so I’m not worried about getting players through; the teams in the 3rd/4th Match may rotate a fair bit but we’ll see the teams for this game before the deadline so this isn’t a huge issue. It’s more about trying to get the key pieces into play. Of the big hitters, the pricing is such that we can’t cover everyone. The 2 high ownership omissions in my squad are Lamine Yamal and Harry Kane, but if I want to work one of them into my squad I’ll need to move on another of my high value players.
The options I’m considering at the moment are as follows:
Option 1 – conservative option where I simply replace my 1 knocked out player (Manzambi) – I’d likely bring in either a Spain midfielder or McAllister from Argentina in this instance.
Option 2 – try and work Kane into my team. For this option, Olise would be the player to move so I’d essentially be swapping one high ownership player for another. I’d do Olise to Doue/Barcola depending on who starts and Oyarzabal to Kane. Manzambi would then be replaced by either McAllister, Baena or Rodrigo De Paul depending on the team sheets.
I need to mull this one over – going Oyarzabal over Kane at this stage is potentially a good opportunity to gain rank with ownerships at 15% vs 50% but Kane has the better goal record and probably the more open fixture. I’d also be at risk of a rank hit if Olise were to haul – he’s at 47% ownership. Tricky one.
My plan is to wait for the Spain v France team news to drop around 645pm and make my transfers then. As per usual I’ll update on Slack (see link above) when I do. I’ll also confirm captain changes and substitutions as the semi final progresses also on Slack. Good luck everyone!
Here’s the team with the option 2 transfers as outlined above. Please note these are unconfirmed and Rob will confirm transfers which could be very different around 6.45pm tonight on Slack
Olise, Manzambi and Oyarzabal OUT Doue, Baena and Kane IN. £0.7m ITB which would also allow Barcola>Doue
