Who Are We Expecting To Be Contenders For Young Player Of The Season In The Premier League 18/19

The Premier League is known to kick start careers of some of the greatest football players including Cristiano Ronaldo, David Beckham, and Michael Owen. Every season there are some young players that stand out who have great potential to perform in the future. And it’s a great opportunity for sports betters too – who can bet on more matches, see their favourite players, and try and win themselves. Many also try out the app from SBK, which helps them bet seamlessly on their favourite matches.

The Top Young Players Who Can Make a Difference This Season

Last season the award was won by Manchester City’s young left winger Leroy Sane for his 14 goal and 19 assist season. Ben Chilwell, Lewis Cook, Sane, and Trent Alexander-Arnold were successful at showing their extraordinary talents and skills. With the Premier League already in action, we are excited to see who will be the players contending for this year’s Young Player of the Season. While the matches build up the excitement, we’ve made a list of names we think have a chance at the title. The age criteria is under the age of 23

1. Ryan Sessegnon

The left winger or fullback won the Player of the Season in the Championship in 2017/18 because of the 15 goals and 6 assists for Fulham. Only 18-years old, Sessegnon has shown great potential and was the first player from outside of Premier League to be nominated for the PFA Young Player of the Year award. He has started the season slowly with just the 1 assist and was in fact on the bench at the weekend v Fulham. However he has great natural talent that has been scouted by a number of Europe’s leading clubs so were expecting him to bounce back.

2. Reuben Neves

The 21-year old Portuguese defensive midfielder helped Wolverhampton Wanderers to win the Championship title in the 2017/18 season. He scored 6 goals and 1 assist last season in addition to his strong tackling and passing stats. He has already started the season well with a goal and an assist playing every minute of Wolves’s opening 3 matches

3. Joe Gomez

Although attacking players are generally favoured in the young player of the year award Joe Gomez has to be in with a shout of he can continue his form as a centre back for Liverpool.

The 21 year old London born Englishman has taken advantage of the injury to World Cup finalist Dejan Lovren and started the season with a string of excellent performances along side Virgil Van Dijk. Gomez has definitely played his part in the 3 clean sheets for Liverpool in 3 games. If he can hold his place and continue that form he could be a contender for the award

4. Matteo Guendouzi

The 19-year old central midfielder from France, Matteo Guendouzi has surprised everyone by starting all 3 of Arsenals opening matches which included games against the Champions Manchester City and last years 5th placed finishers Chelsea. In doing so he’s kept the more experienced player in Xhaka and new signing Torreira on the bench at times. His energy has helped Emery implement a new aggressive pressing tactic as well.

5. Richarlison

It was a season of 2 halves in 17/18 for the 21 year old former Watford left winger who’s now signed for Everton. After 5 goals and 5 assists last season in his first 17 games he then went on a 21 game blank streak where he seemingly could not put the ball in the net no matter how good a position he was in.

However he’s on the path to reversing that with 3 goals in his first 3 games for Everton. That has been derailed somewhat by a mindless sending off versus Bournemouth but hopefully that becomes a valuable learning experience.

Who do you think will end up the winner?
