An introduction

My intention at the moment is to take the fixture difficulty ranking from the Official FPL site with some slight adjustments. That schedule doesn’t differentiate between attack and defence and is an overall ranking. You will see their fixture difficulty when you look at a player in detail on the FPL site.

The schedule below uses the official rankings to rank them from easiest at the top to hardest at the bottom. The order of the teams is for GW5-10. The figure in the right hand column is the ranking from from GW5-7

So here are attacking and defensive player suggestions for the following teams. That is Arsenal, Bournemouth, Leicester, C Palace Everton and Man Utd.

The stats will be fairly basic and from last season with some commentary about the first 4 weeks of this season for this season thrown in.

Arsenal

Selection of the attacking players is difficult with the amount of tinkering going on at the moment by the manager.  Aubameyang has been pretty consistently selected by has played wide left when Lacazette has been on the pitch.  Lacazette has started just the 1 game but it was very productive in GW4 v Cardiff.  Ozil has started all 3 when fit but has been remarkably unproductive.  Ramsey has started the last 2 and Mkhitaryan was benched for GW4.

For that reason I’m only going to concentrate on Lacazette, Aubameyang and Ramsey although it should be recognised how unpredictable so far Emery has been

£10.9m Fwd Aubameyang started 12 games plus 1 as sub for 10 goals and 4 assists for a PP90 of 7.4 in 17/18.  He started all 4 games in 18/19 but only broke his duck v Cardiff for a points per match of 3.5.  Has been shunted out left when Lacazette starts which is not what you want for the price.  His underlying stats so far this season have been pretty underwhelming.

£9.4m Fwd Lacazette started 26 games plus 6 as sub for 14 goals and 5 assists for a PP90 of 5.7 in 17/18.  Started his first game v Cardiff and played in the CF spot for a goal and assist and 12 FPL points.  Seems difficult to believe Emery could bench him after that.

£7.4m Mid Ramsey started 21 games plus 3 as sub for 7 goals and 10 assists for a PP90 of 6.3 in 17/18.  He has started 3 of the 4 games in 18/19 including the last 2 games and played 90 minutes in those 2.  However he’s yet to return a goal or assist and has posted some pretty ordinary underlying stats which doesn’t help.  It’s a leap of faith to last season.

Defence wise it’s either Bellerin or Monreal for me.  They’re both £5.5m

Newcastle (A)
Everton (H)
Watford (H)
Fulham (A)
Leicester (H)
Crystal Palace (A)

Bournemouth

Bournemouth have started well and Howe for once has been consistent in his team selection.

£6.2m Fwd Wilson started 23 games plus 5 as sub for 8 goals and 2 assists for a PP90 of 4.6 in 17/18.  He started the season off with a bang with 2 goals and 3 assists at a PPM of 6.0 posting some good stats into the bargain.  He’s performing way above his historical numbers.  Is this improvement or over performance is the question?

£5.6m Mid Fraser started 23 games plus 3 as sub for 5 goals and 3 assists for a PP90 of 4.3 in 17/18.  A goal and an assist in 4 90 minute starts at a PPM of 5.3 is some start.  Again it’s a question of sustainability as he posts numbers far in excess of his history (albeit previously he played in various different positions)

£6.4m Fwd King started 27 games plus 6 as sub for 8 goals and 4 assists for a PP90 of 4.0 in 17/18.  He will have pens it seems.  Just the 1 penalty in 4 near 90 minute starts at a PPM of 3.5.  Under performing even his pretty ordinary historical underlying stats.

Defence for me is either the assist potential of £4.5m Adam Smith or the goal threat of £4.6m Steve Cook.

Leicester (H)
Burnley (A)
Crystal Palace (H)
Watford (A)
Southampton (H)
Fulham (A)

Leicester

For me there’s only the returning Jamie Vardy and maybe James Maddison here.

£8.9m Fwd Vardy started 37 games plus 0 as sub for 20 goals and 2 assists for a PP90 of 5.1 in 17/18.  He’s back from suspension in GW5 having started 1 game and came on as sub for 1 scoring a goal in the process.

£6.5m Fwd Maddison  was with Norwich in the Championship in 17/18.  Impressed against Man Utd and Liverpool but provided little attacking output in the games against Southampton and Wolves.  Not cheap considering his history.

In defence I would probably go for attacking RB and sometimes RM Pereira at £5.1m

Bournemouth (A)
Huddersfield (H)
Newcastle (A)
Everton (H)
Arsenal (A)
West Ham (H)

C Palace

Zaha is the only attacking option for me but is an injury doubt at the moment.

In defence it’s the cheap option of £4.1m Wan Bissaka or the attacking option of £5.5m Van Aanholt

Huddersfield (A)
Newcastle (H)
Bournemouth (A)
Wolves (H)
Everton (A)
Arsenal (H)

Everton

Everton go into GW5 with Walcott an injury doubt and Richarlison with 1 match of his suspension still to serve.  That leaves Sigurdsson and Tosun as options although neither have been in great form

£7.0m fwd Tosun scored 5 goals in 12 starts plus 2 as sub for a points per 90 mins of 5.0 in 17/18.  So far he’s started all 4 games for no goals and 2 assists and only averaged 82 minutes per game on the pitch.  His PPM is 3.3 and his underlying stats have been dreadful.  2 games with Everton sendings off are some mitigation

£7.4m mid Sigurdsson scored 4 goals and 4 assists  in 25 starts plus 2 as sub for a points per 90 mins of 3.8 in 17/18.  Things have started no better with just the 1 assist in 3 starts in 18/19 with only the Southampton game being anything like a performance.

Defensively there’s uncertainty all over the pitch selection wise.  Coleman  is expensive at £5.4but the most nailed on option unless you go to Jordan Pickford in goal at £5.0m

West Ham (H)
Arsenal (A)
Fulham (H)
Leicester (A)
Crystal Palace (H)
Man Utd (A)

Man Utd

£11.0m fwd Lukaku scored 16 goals and 7 assists  in 33 starts plus 1 as sub for a points per 90 mins of 5.1 in 17/18.  A fantastic start to the season with 3 goals in his 3 starts on the back of some great underlying stats

£10.2m mid Sanchez scored 9 goals and 10 assists in 29 starts plus 2 as sub for Arsenal and Man Utd last season for a points per 90 mins of 5.4 in 17/18.  Been more of a creative force with his 2 assists in 2 starts.  Will need to show more for the price though.

£6.8m mid Lingard scored 8 goals and 6 assists in 20 starts plus 13 as sub for a points per 90 mins of 6.4 in 17/18.  Started the last 2 but yet to return.  Minutes are the issue with him being subbed off in the 70s v Burnley

£8.2m mid Pogba scored 6 goals and 13 assists  in 25 starts plus 2 as sub for a points per 90 mins of 5.0 in 17/18.  Seems like he will continue as the penalty taker despite his miss v Burnley.  They have been the reason for all his returns so far.  That’s a good thing as his underlying stats so far this season have been woeful.

Defensively I think £5.1m Luke Shaw is the best option at the moment

Watford (A)
Wolves (H)
West Ham (A)
Newcastle (H)
Chelsea (A)
Everton (H)
