FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE BEST MIDFIELDER PLAYER RANKINGS GW11 – MIDFIELDERS £7.5M PLUS

This article was written before the Champions League games on Wednesday

Thursday update: For Man City Sterling, Sane and De Bruyne played 90.  Bernardo came on in the 76th minute.  D Silva didn’t get off the bench.  Aguero and Sterling scored.

First it’s important to remember that each player is ranked as a transfer target for this week. So while we generally look at fixtures form and underlying stats a player who’s away to Man City is going to be ranked lower than someone home to Huddersfield for example. If possible a transfer should have a good fixture first up.

Firstly there’s a table of stats. Then there’s a bit of brief commentary on each player and their next 6 fixtures.

This is the 2nd player rankings article. I’ve also written a defenders and GKs player rankings article

STATS DEFINITIONS

Fixt Ease: The ease of the mentioned fixture range from an attacking perspective. See our GW11 fixture ease article

Mins per FPL Pt. The amount of minutes a player takes to earn an FPL point. The shorter and obviously lower the number is the better

ATGS – the bookies anytime goalscoring odds for GW10.

xG and xA per 90 – the expected goals and assists per 90 minutes played from the better than excellent site understat.com. See our underlying stats summary for expected goal information on teams and players. See also Joseph Crilleys GW10 review part 1 with underlying stats  and part 2

The schedule

fantasy premier league best midfielders player rankings GW11

Salah

5 goals and 3 assists in his 9 starts.  He’s been consistent too,  returning a goal or assist in 6 of those starts.  His underlying stats show that this is no fluke and what’s more he’s been a consistent goal threat as well as producer.  Shame he missed the pen against Huddersfield as that could have consequences for further duties

West Ham (A)
Southampton (H)
Chelsea (H)
Stoke (A)
Brighton (A)
Everton (H)

Sane

Started 6 games this season and returned a goal or assist in 5 of them.  Now has an incredible total of 6 goals and 5 assists and a goals per minute stats which is nothing short of phenomenal.  Plays very advanced but is based on the left.  Sometimes can spend a decent time wide but not hurting returns.  Underlying stats are excellent and fairly evenly distributed between shooting and creating chances.

As with any member of Man City rotation is the question with 7 attacking players for mostly 4 places in very simple terms.

Thursday Update:  Played 90 mins in the UCL

Arsenal (H)
Leicester (A)
Huddersfield (A)
Southampton (H)
West Ham (H)
Man Utd (A)

Sterling

Only 29 minutes in GW10, no problem as Sterlings new found ability to find tap ins increased his goal tally to 7 goals and 2 assists in 5 starts and 3 games as sub.

Fantastic underlying stats back this up too although a little quiet in 2 of those 5 games he started in.

As I said for Sane rotation is the issue as Pep seems to have his eyes on winning everything

Thursday update:  played 90 minutes in the UCL and scored

Arsenal (H)
Leicester (A)
Huddersfield (A)
Southampton (H)
West Ham (H)
Man Utd (A)

Eriksen

3 goals and 3 assists in his 10 starts to date and he returned in an acceptable 5 of them.  Has blanked in the last 2 though.

Underlying stats are the issue.  He should be up there creating chances with the Ozil’s and De Bruynes of this world but he’s behind £4.5m Loftus Cheek.  Now he has in the past consistently out performed his assist based underlying stats.  Having Harry Kane finishing off your chances created helps there and his current rate isn’t too dissimilar to a couple of seasons back when he got 6 goals and 13 assists

Does appear to be playing a little deeper recently and Son playing doesn’t appear to help that.

Great fixture next

Crystal Palace (H)
Arsenal (A)
West Brom (H)
Leicester (A)
Watford (A)
Stoke (H)

Alli

In Kane’s absence at the weekend was even more of a support in the phrase support striker.

However given the advanced position returns are pretty disappointing,  3 goals and 2 assists returning in 4 of those 10 games on the back of only ok underlying stats.

Great fixture next.

Crystal Palace (H)
Arsenal (A)
West Brom (H)
Leicester (A)
Watford (A)
Stoke (H)

Sanchez

Transferring in a player when they are away at Man City isn’t something you would ordinarily do but Sanchez is no ordinary player.  However 1 goal and 3 assists in 5 starts does verge on the ordinary and when you consider those games were Swansea, Brighton, WBA, Everton and a 4-0 win over Liverpool it looks even less impressive.  So 15 goals and he’s scores 1 isn’t great.

However the good news is that the underlying stats are good and not too far off previous seasons which have seen 24, 13 and 16 goals.  What’s more his assisted based stats are excellent and way above anything previously.

Questions over his commitment to Arsenal and frustration at others continues however.  His price and the next 2 fixtures are the real impediment though

Man City (A)
Spurs (H)
Burnley (A)
Huddersfield (H)
Man Utd (H)
Southampton (A)

De Bruyne

Rave reviews from pundits although less so from FPL managers as his returns pale compared to Sane and Sterling with a deeper positioning and price not helping.  However since blanking in the opening 3 fixtures he’s returned a goal or assist in 5 of the 7 games and now totals a respectable 1 goal and 6 assists at a reasonable return rate.  The underlying stats have also shown great improvement in the last 3 matches as well

Seems fairly immune from PL and UCL rotation having not appeared to any significant degree in Pep’s grand plan to win the EFL Cup

Thursday update:  Played 90 minutes in the UCL

Arsenal (H)
Leicester (A)
Huddersfield (A)
Southampton (H)
West Ham (H)
Man Utd (A)

D Silva

1 goal and 6 assists in 10 games playing all but 28 minutes.  We know he can create chances and provide assists.  The last 3 games have seen a dramatic increase in his shooting stats and the GW10 game against WBA he was a constant presence in their penalty area and really should have scored with a number of good chances.  That’s a positive.  2 consecutive blanks though have spooked FPL managers and have seen sales.

Thursday update:  Didn’t come off the bench in the UCL

Arsenal (H)
Leicester (A)
Huddersfield (A)
Southampton (H)
West Ham (H)
Man Utd (A)

Mahrez

Would it surprise you if I said that Mahrez has a goal and 6 assists in his 9 starts this season including a goal and 3 assists in his last 3?

What’s more under new manager Claude Puel he played as a number 10 behind his title winning partner in crime Jamie Vardy.

Add to that is the fact that his underlying stats in his last 3 games have been fantastic.  Certainly much better than the dross he’s being serving up before that.  Now 3 swallows doesn’t make a summer but all these things are positives.  The negatives added to that are a pretty defensive manager but Leicester are suited to counter attack anyway and some tricky fixtures mixed in with good ones

Stoke (A)
Man City (H)
West Ham (A)
Spurs (H)
Burnley (H)
Newcastle (A)

Hazard

Scored his first goal against Bournemouth at he weekend in his 4 starts to make it a goal and assist for the season to date.  That was definitely more like it after 3 quite pitiful performances before that.

Tricky fixture next but there is improvement coming

Man Utd (H)
West Brom (A)
Liverpool (A)
Swansea (H)
Newcastle (H)
West Ham (A)
