Fantasy Premier League

Here’s just a quick update on my wildcard team.  I’ll talk about the structure and the issues and decisions still to be made

Here’s our team to start with

Team selection update

Since Saturday when I activated the wildcard I’ve only made 2 changes.  That was Redmond out who was just there as a placeholder and  Pedro in.  The 2nd was Kompany out and Kolarov in.  That was in part to gain funds in order to make the above transfer.

Issues

I only really have 4 issues at the moment and they are mainly in defence

The most pressing is Southampton £4.0m LB Targett who will probably lose his place to Bertrand after the international break ie GW5. Unfortunately I have no funds in order to make the transfer to a £4.4m type option.  The only other £4.0m option is Steven Taylor of Newcastle.  He was excellent against Man Utd but played due to the suspension of Janmaat as new CB Mbemba played RB.  Is MBemba likely to go back to CB when Janmaat returns.  Probably.  Coloccini will certainly hold his place.  However Taylors probably a better gamble than Targett and I can see Targett’s price falling when he loses his spot.  I could gamble with £4.0m GK Hennesey of Palace and go a double cheap Palace as GKs but that would leave me without a GK if Speroni returns from injury and claims the spot.  Otherwise I would possibly have to do something even more radical and exchange Gomis  to raise cash.

The other areas that are potential issues are Myhill where WBA are rumoured to be looking for a GK.  I’ll let that roll to the end of the week.  I could put another GK in and then gamble that WBA £4.5m defender Olsson holds his place but that seems a big gamble with Lescott on the bench ostensibly due to transfer rumours and contract disputes.  If thats resolves Olsson’s place has to be at risk.

Another issue is £4.6m CB Richards.  I’m not wild about the Villa defence and I may swap him for another option

Liverpool £4.7m LB Gomez is the last defence issue.  However as time goes on he looks more and more secure and  I won’t be taking him out

My last issue is Hazard vs Pedro.  Hazard to me is proven but I ditched him for Pedro to save money and avoid a price drop on Hazard which has now happened.  To afford him I would have to downgrade Sanchez to Ozil or Ramsey so Ramsey/Ozil and Hazard or Pedro and Sanchez?

The Team

Structure

I’m still sticking with 3-4-3 as the default formation.  As you will see below we’ve moved to 3 core defenders plus 2 cheapies.  We’ve also stuck to 4 proper midfielders with a £4.5m cheapie mid as a benchwarmer for the attacking 8.

The Core

The core of the team are

£5.7m Man City LB Kolarov

£5.7m Man Utd RB Darmain

£4.7m Liverpool LB Gomez

£9.5m Chelsea RM Pedro

£10.1m Man City CAM Silva

£11.0m Arsenal AM Sanchez

£13.2m Man City forward Aguero

£6.0m Leicester RM Mahrez you would now count as part of the core given his form and populartity

That is a concentration of top 4 challenging teams making up the bulk of our teams which is consistent with how the top 10 FPL managers I follow make up there teams.

Kolarov Darmain and Gomez have all had 3 clean sheets to start with and look the form defence to get representation from

Chelsea’s Pedro started with a great 13 points and has a good pedigree with Barca.  He is part of swap for cash as Hazard who has had a stuttering start but as I said above thats still an issue in progress.

Silva and Aguero are part of the proven and reliable series in my article here to copy and paste into a seperate tab

fantasy premier league – the proven and reliable

Silva’s minutes per FPL point last season was an exceptional 13.9minutes  with a very good consistency rate of returns 16/32 games ie  50%

Aguero stats were incredible last season with an FPL point every 11.7 minutes and a consistency return rate of  22/33 games ie  67%

That just leaves Sanchez who last season was explosive but less consistent than the above  with an FPL point every 14.2minutes and a consistency rate of  15/35 ie 43%

That leaves Mahrez who’s form of 4 goals in 3 games with good fixtures to come is part of the core at the moment.  He’s owned by 10/10 of the top FPL managers I follow

The fixture players

If you’ve read my fixture ease article this week you would have seen the teams with the best fixtures.  The remaining players apart from the cheapies come from that Group.

They are:

Bournemouth £5.5m forward Wilson (3 games 3 goals 0 assists) – Championship 14/15 – 45 starts 20 goals and 7 assists. Goal/ assist every 144 minutes 14/15

Leicester (H)
Norwich (A)
Sunderland (H)
Stoke (A)
Watford (H)
Man City (A)

Swansea £7.2m forward Gomis (3 games 3 goals 0 assists) – FPL point every 19.6 minutes in 14/15. 7 returns in 31 games 23% consistency in 14/15

Man Utd (H)
Watford (A)
Everton (H)
Southampton (A)
Spurs (H)
Stoke (H)

The cheapies

I chose Westwood as my £4.5m mid as he has some set piece responsibility and seems a favourite of the manager Sherwood.

Other cheapies Targett and Richards I discussed above.  That just leaves McCarthy who I’m hoping will hold his place when Speroni returns but in any case he’s a good gamble at £4.0m

I’ll tweet and facebook if I make other changes plus do a final team before the deadline
