Telegraph Fantasy Football Championship comes to FFGeek

Telegraph fantasy football

For a bit of variety I’ve decided to enter a team into the telegraph fantasy football championship edition. The championship isn’t really my strong point but with a bit of research I’ve managed to come up with  GW1 team and there’s a FFGeek league to enter.

Telegraph Fantasy Football Championship comes to FFGeek

So here’s the team.  There’s probably a few too many gambles in there for the format and I’m heavily reliant on last seasons data but here’s the team

GK and Defence

So here I tried to go for players I thought were reasonably secure.  However my first pick represents something of a gamble in Ayala.  I thought with Chambers gone that he would be the first choice centre back after Gibson who also has a good chance of going.

Then I picked John Terry.  Aston Villa seem to be one of the favourites to go up and I’m a great believer in Steve Bruce’s ability to construct a defence.

The next 2 picks were where I was trying to find some value in some of the more fancied teams in the league.  Both Batth and Ayling were reasonably secure last season at their clubs.

Westwood was the favoured GK pick at 25% ownership.  Sheffield Wednesday got to the playoffs last season.

Midfield

Jota

The Brentford RW came into the side last year at roughly the halfway point.  He made 19 (2) appearances and scored 12 goals and 5 assists at a goal or assist every 100 minutes which is just incredible.

Hoolahan

I picked Hoolahan for Norwich as his returns were very good.  He made 31 (2) appearances for Norwich last season with 7 goals and 11 assists at a goal or assist every 136 minutes.  He is a gamble though at 35 and did have spells last season in and out of the team

Saiz

The new Leeds acquisition Samu Siaz is also a bit of a gamble.  He joined Leeds from La Liga 2 team SD Huesca where he played as a secondary striker and scored 12 goals and 8 assists in 39 (1) appearances.  Thats a fairly tidy rate of a goal or assist every 172 minutes.  How he adapts and whether he starts in the team straight away are the gambles.

Fleck

The 25 year old Scottish assist king scored 4 goals and 17 assists in Sheffield United’s promotion last season.  That again is a tidy rate of a goal or assist every 177 minutes. How he can translate that to the Championship is the question.

Strikers

Kodjia

I’ve started here with the non risk option of the Villa Championship goalscoring favourite in Jonathan Kodjia.  Last season he made 39 (1) appearances for 19 goals and 2 assists at a goal or assist every 162 minutes.  4 of those games were for Bristol City.

Rhodes

Jordan Rhodes’s price was just too tempting for me.  His record in the Championship for Sheffield Wednesday was pretty appalling.  He scored 3 goals and 3 assists in 14 (4) appearances at a very unhealthy 215 minutes.  He also had far too many sub appearances towards the end of the season for me.  However his overall record in the Championship is alot better.  In 207 games he’s scored 94 goals and 19 assists at a rate of a goal or assist every 144 minutes.  The price and his potential were the attraction
