Telegraph fantasy football

Telegraph fantasy football has returned and we’ll be covering it again at Fantasy Football Geek.  Here’s a rule review, my first draft team, league details and plans for the season

The rules

I imagine most of you have played before so I’m not going to go into detail about the rules.

It’s very simple and easy to play so here are the basics

It’s a team based around 11 players who score points in the usual variety of formations based on premier league games and FA Cup games.  The point system is based on goals, clean sheets and a wider definition of assists then FPL called key contributions.  Negative points accrue for goals conceded and cards.  Positive GK points for saves are also in the scoring system.

There are no subs, no bonus points, no wildcards, no chips, no limitations on players from each PL team, no price changes and no captains unlike fantasy premier league.

You get 40 transfers in a season with a limit for your own protection of 5 per week.  There are no gameweeks transfer deadlines like FPL.  You can change your team at anytime, even between matches, subject to certain rules

1 team is free and there are charges for more.

FFGeek coverage

My aspiration would be to do a weekly article covering my team and possible player suggestions but that may not always be feasible.  I will always post my team after any transfer is made though.  At the moment I’ve only done 1 team but I am thinking of more.

FFGeek league

I’ve restarted the league from last season so you should get an invite to join again if you were in it.  The Telegraph have said they will give £100 in prize money as they did last season.

The league is called FantasyFootballGeek .  The league PIN is 8000919 and the passcode is 1159

The first draft team

Here’s my first crack at a team:

So I’ve gone for a strong defence and GK with attacking players in each position.  Trippier is in as Kyle Walker looks headed to Man City.

Up front I’ve gone for last seasons 2 top goalscorers.  Lukaku should benefit from a change to Man Utd and could get penalty duties.

The midfield is where the gambles are.  I’ve tried to go for the players with set piece involvement who can benefit from the wider definition of assists.

Willian should get a place in the Chelsea team with the early injury to Hazard.  Tadic and Ritchie have good fixtures to start although Tadic continues to promise but never delivers.  De Bruyne surely should improve from last season although I was also tempted for Coutinho.
