fantasy premier league – clean sheet analysis GW6

Fantasy Premier League

Here’s my look at all the fantasy premier league gameweek GW6 matches to see where the potential clean sheets are

I’ve gone through all the games and given a basic stats analysis and then a verdict on whether I think there will be a clean sheet.  If you cant be bothered with all that there’s a summary at the end of what I think will be the clean sheets and the ranking of their likelihood.  I’ve also added the William Hill odds of a clean sheet and ranked all of them under£3.00  for a clean sheet in order as a comparison and a sense check.

Spurs v Chelsea

Spurs clean sheet:

Spurs defence: 1 goal conceded in first 5 games and 4 clean sheet.   The best defence at the moment although on the back of relatively easy fixtures except for the Arsenal game

Chelsea  attack: 6 goals in 5 games but have great underlying stats despite the goal shyness just haven’t put them away.

Chelsea  clean sheet:

Chelsea defence: 2 goals conceded in their first 5 games and 3 clean sheets.  I rank them as the 2nd best defensive team.    Were very impressive defensively away to Utd

Spurs attack:  5 goals in 5 games.  Have had loads of chances and have great underling stats just can’t put the chances away.  Soldado’s frustrations epitomises the team

Verdict:  2 clean sheets

This will depend on the managers attitude.  I think it will be a cagey affair and will be nil nil

William Hill clean sheet Verdict:  Spurs £3.10 Chelsea £3.25

Aston Villa v Man City

Aston Villa clean sheet:

Aston Villa defence:  6 goals conceded in first 5 games and 1 clean sheets.   I ranked them the 17th overall defence.  Started well in the difficult teams but have since defended poorly.

Man City  attack:  12 goals in 5 games and one of the best sets of underlying stats.  The only issue is the Bayern game mid week and who will line up.  Still enough talent that any team put out looks dangerous.  Haven’t covered themselves in gory away fro home though with the Stoke game being the main example.

Man City clean sheet:

Man City  defence:  4 goals conceded in 5 games and 3 clean sheets.  Kompany back is a major benefit as was shown in the derby.  No Benteke is a major plus

Aston Villa  attack:  6 goals in 5 games and middle of the road  underlying stats.

Verdict:   Man City clean sheet

Kompany back and Benteke back should see this as a clean sheet to City

William Hill clean sheet verdict:  Villa £6.50 Man City £2.30

Fulham v Cardiff

Fulham clean sheet:

Fulham  defence:  7 goals conceded in first 5 games and 1 clean sheets.   19th ranked defence

Cardiff attack: 4 goals in 5 games (3 in the game against City) and close to the worst  underlying attacking stats.

Cardiff clean sheet:

Cardiff defence: 6 goals conceded in their first 5  games and 1 clean sheet and ranked 14th in overall defence.

Fulham attack:  3 goals in 5 games and the worst of any teams underlying stats.  Have struggled with injuries but still terrible.

Verdict:   no clean sheets

Both sides poor in attack and defence and I think both sides will score

William Hill clean sheet verdict:  Fulham £2.60  Cardiff £3.75

Hull v West Ham

Hull clean sheet:

Hull defence:  7 goals conceded in first 5 games and 1 clean sheet. I’ve rated them the 15th best defence overall.  Lost Chester but Figueroa should return

West Ham  attack:  4 goals in 5 games and bottom quarter underlying stats.  Petric may help if he starts

West Ham clean sheet:

West Ham defence: 4 goals conceded in their first 5  games and 3 clean sheets.   I’ve ranked them the 7th overall defence.

Hull attack:  5 goals in 5 games and bottom quarter underlying stats.

Verdict:    West Ham clean sheets

West Ham travel well in defence occasionally and I can see them holding Hull here

William Hill verdict:  Hull £2.70  West Ham £3.40

Man Utd v WBA

Man Utd  clean sheet:

Man Utd  defence:   6 goals conceded ( 4 against City) in 5 games and 2 clean sheets.  I’ve ranked them the 8th best overall defence.

WBA attack: 4 goals in 5 games with mid table underlying stats.

WBA clean sheet:

WBA  defence: 4 goals conceded in their first 5  games and 2 clean sheets.

Man Utd attack:   7 goals scored in 5 games and top 3rd underlying stats despite trickty start.  Probably no RVP but Rooney and 1 other will still be a great attack

Verdict:     Man Utd clean sheet

Despite some misfiring I cant see Utd not scoring.  The Utd defence should be strong enough to hold WBA off

William Hill clean sheet verdict:  Man U £1.85 WBA £8.00

 Southampton v Crystal palace

Southampton clean sheet:

Southampton defence:  2 goals conceded in first 5 games and 3 clean sheets.  I’ve ranked them the 4th best defence in the league

Crystal Palace attack: 4 goals in 5 games and one of the worst underlying stats of any team.

Crystal Palace clean sheet:

Crystal Palace defence:  8 goals conceded  in 5 games and 0 clean sheets.   Delaney plus a number of injuries making things worse.

Southampton attack:  3 goals in 5 games but mid table underlying stats.  Lambert and Osvaldo are struggling to play together

Verdict:      Southampton clean sheet

Cant see any other outcome in this one

William Hill clean sheet Verdict:   Southampton £1.85  Palace £6.00

Swansea v Arsenal

Swansea clean sheet:

Swansea defence:  7 goals conceded in first 5 games and only 5 clean sheets.   I’ve ranked them 12th overall in defence but they seem to defend better away than at home where they’ve conceded 4 goals in 2 games

Arsenal attack: 11 goals in 5 games and  probably the best  underlying stats.

Arsenal  clean sheet:

Arsenal defence: 6 goals conceded in their first 5  games and 1 clean sheet.   I’ve ranked them 11th overall which is poor considering their kind fixtures

Swansea attack:  7 goals in 5 games.    Underlying stats are top 3rd.

Verdict:      No clean sheet

Can see this being a goalfest

William Hill clean sheet verdict:  Swansea £4.00   Arsenal  £3.10

Stoke City v Norwich

Stoke clean sheet:

Stoke  defence:  5 goals conceded in first 5 games and 2 clean sheets.  I’ve ranked them 10th overall defensively.

Norwich  attack: 3 goals in 5 games and  virtually the worst  underlying stats.

Norwich clean sheet:

Norwich defence: 6 goals conceded in their first 5  games and 1 clean sheet.    I’ve ranked them 16th in overall defence

Stoke attack:  4 goals in 5 games.    Underlying stats are bottom 3rd

Verdict:     Stoke clean sheet

The Stoke defence was poor against Arsenal but showed at home against City that they still have that strong defensive mentality

William Hill clean verdict:  Stoke £2.30 Norwich £3.75

Sunderland v Liverpool

Sunderland Clean sheet

Sunderland defence:  11 goals conceded in first 5 games and  clean sheets.   I rate them as the worst defensive team overall.  Will they be improved after Di Canio has left.  I cant see it significantly

Liverpool  attack: 5 goals in 5 games.   Underlying stats are slightly above mid table.  Suarez will definitely help

Liverpool clean sheet:

Liverpool defence: 3 goal conceded in their first 5  games and 3 clean sheets.    I’ve ranked them the 5th best defensive team in the league.

Sunderland attack :  3 goals in 5 games.  Underlying stats are  lower 3rd.

Verdict:     No clean sheet

Yet to be convinced about the Liverpool defence away from home at the moment

William Hill verdict:  Sunderland£4.75  Liverpool  £2.10

Everton v Newcastle

Everton Clean sheet

Everton  defence:  4 goals conceded in first 5 games and 3 clean sheets.   I’ve ranked them the 3rd best defensive team in the league

Newcastle   attack: 5 goals in 5 games and  middle table in underlying stats.  Remy gives them an additional edge

Newcastle clean sheet

Newcastle  defence: 8 goals conceded in their first 5  games and 2 clean sheets.     I ranked them the 13th overall defence.

Everton  attack :  6 goals in 5 games.   Top 5 underlying stats

Verdict:      Everton clean sheets

Everton have looked solid and I think even with Remy they will hold off Newcastle

William Hill clean sheet verdict:  Everton £2.25 Newcastle  £5.00

Summary

Here’s my clean sheets and the order of likelihood:

Southampton

Man City

Man Utd

Stoke

Everton

West Ham

Spurs

Chelsea

Here’s the William Hill odds under £3.00 to win

Man Utd £1.85

Southampton £1.85

Liverpool £2.10

Everton £2.25

Stoke £2.30

Man City £2.30

Fulham £2.60

Hull £2.70

So the main differences between William Hill and myself are that I think West Ham will get a clean sheet and that Spurs and Chelsea will be 0-0.  William Hill think that Liverpool Hull and Fulham have a better chance of a clean sheet than I do.  What ever the case it looks like it might be a weekend with more clean sheets than the average 7 so far.

Ok that’s it thanks and hope the above helps
