Avoiding the preamble

If you just want a quick transfer suggestion I’ve given these at the end if you want to skip all the preamble.

Stats definitions:

I’ve firstly ordered the teams by what I think is their defensive strength based their goals conceded, xG conceded and the shots per game conceded. These stats are for 19/20 only. You can see the rank of each stat mentioned above in the first 3 columns.

The stats after that are their:

My suggested defender for that team. I’ve tried to take into account what I think is an appropriate price for the team as well as their attacking and points potential. The table then shows their value and current 19/20 PPM

The likely starting GK for the team with the same price and PPM next to them

A bookies odds for a clean sheet for GW12. The lower the better obviously.

The fixture ease rank. The team facing the easiest attacking teams over the next 6 gameweeks is ranked 1. See our fixture ease article

Prices are as of Wednesday 6 November

Gameweek 12 Fixtures

The Schedule

If you want access to copy and paste the schedule here’s the google spreadsheet link which I’ve set out differently if you want to sort different columns. Just go File> make a copy to get your own version

The teams are ranked by defensive strength only. Fixtures are not factored in.

Transfer suggestions for GW12

Here I trying to find a combination of defensive strength, a good next fixture and fixtures beyond that for me this week there are 4

Man Utd

Despite featuring highly in the  stats above United have yet to get the clean sheets they’ve deserved and that’s reflected in pretty ordinary points per match stats for their defenders.  However their xG against according to understat has been less than 1 goal on 7 occasions this season.  That basic defensive strength and a pretty good schedule should see an improvement.

Unfortunately theres no strong attacking option to offsett the clean sheet risk but for me Harry Maguire is the closest they have.

GW13 SHU (A)
GW14 AVL (H)
GW15 TOT (H)
GW16 MCI (A)
GW17 EVE (H)

Chelsea

The Chelsea defence is also much better than the 2 clean sheets suggest and also should improve.  With Tomori only costing £4.8m he’s also cheap enough to justify bench rotation for the best fixtures.

GW12 CRY (H)
GW13 MCI (A)
GW14 WHU (H)
GW15 AVL (H)
GW16 EVE (A)
GW17 BOU (H)

Wolves

Injuries to Bennett and Boly should see cheapie Saiss hold his place in the team.  Otherwise it’s an upgrade to £5.0m Coady who offers little attacking threat for the price.  £6.0m Doherty definitely does offer attacking threat but has been in and out of the side.  He’s started the last 2 though with Traore moving forward but still it comes with risk as it’s pretty formation driven.

GW12 AVL (H)
GW13 BOU (A)
GW14 SHU (H)
GW15 WHU (H)
GW16 BHA (A)
GW17 TOT (H)

Spurs

The back 4/5 defence aren’t providing value for money for me so it’s only £4.5m GK Gazzaniga who’s worthwhile.  He should hold his place at least to Christmas given Lloris’s injury

GW12 SHU (H)
GW13 WHU (A)
GW14 BOU (H)
GW15 MUN (A)
GW16 BUR (H)
GW17 WOL (A)

The defenders fixture ease schedule

The schedule is sorted by the ease of the attacking teams being faced over 6 gameweeks

The clean sheet schedule

My schedule tries to focus on the stats that will lead to clean sheets rather than clean sheets themselves but I though it would be worth while getting the clean sheet schedule from the premier league site

Goalkeeper save %

Here’s another schedule which shows you a goalkeeper save %.  It’s not a ranking in itself as you can see there’s no correlation between % and clean sheets but does give you some idea of GKs who are good shot stoppers.  It’s from the stats site fbref.com
