Hi and welcome to Gameweek 14 Player Picks. For each gameweek, I’ll be picking out 3 players in distinct player selection categories.
Player Categories
One Banker – this will take form and the fixture ease schedule into account and is a player who I think is a must for the next few gameweeks and should provide a steady stream of points.
One Ace – a player who I think has a good chance of scoring big this week. I’ll take form, this weeks fixtures and the bookies odds into account here.
One Joker – a player who is a bit of punt but I think may surprise a few people. Might be a low ownership player, someone coming back from injury or just a bit of a gut feeling on my part – there will be no evidence base on this one!
I’ll keep a tally each week of how things are going – I’ll analyse the Banker over 4 GWs, the other 2 will just be on a weekly basis. Wish me luck and here goes!
Gameweek 13 Review
GW10 Banker – Mohamed Salah
GW10 – 4 points (midfield clean sheet, assist, missed penalty)
GW11 – 16 points (2 goals, midfield clean sheet, 3 bonus points)
GW12 – 16 points (2 goals, midfield clean sheet, 3 bonus points)
GW13 – 7 points (1 goal) – another goal makes it 5 and 3 for the league’s leading goalscorer and a full house of returns for the GW10 Banker. A Must-have.
GW11 Banker – Phil Jones
GW11 – 1 point (yellow card, 1 goal conceded)
GW12 – 0 points (injured) [Eric Bailly also injured]
GW13 – 0 points (injured) – still injured, back in training but no clues as to whether will make GW14. De Gea looks the safest bet for United defensive coverage at the moment
GW12 Banker – Wilfred Zaha
GW12 – 7 points (1 goal)
GW13 – 2 points – no return this week for Zaha in Palace’s win over Stoke. Brighton away next is a trickier fixture for the bottom side.
GW13 Banker – Leroy Sane
GW13 – 1 point (yellow card) – a surprising blank though he did rattle the bar with a free-kick. His booking after the final whistle puts him one yellow away from a a ban so invest with caution.
GW13 Ace – Callum Wilson
2 points – Swansea went a bit against the form book and held the Cherries 0-0, meaning a blank for Wilson. Burnley at home next – stubborn opposition defensively.
GW13 Joker – Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting
2 points – a full house of blanks for this weeks picks unfortunately. Must do better this week!
Gameweek 14 Picks
Banker – Cesar Azpilicueta (CHE £6.9m) – SWA
If you didn’t already know it, Chelsea are about to embark on an amazing run of fixtures through to GW 28. That’s 14 weeks where Arsenal are the only one of the top teams they face. It’s time to invest! Azpilicueta (aka Dave) has a goal, 5 assists and 11 bonus points so far – no wonder he’s the leading scoring defender in the game! If you’re looking for cheaper coverage then Christensen and Courtois are available at £5.4m, but we shouldn’t overlook Dave’s attacking returns.
Ace – Eden Hazard (CHE £10.7) – SWA
It’s a Chelsea double-up this week for good reason with a great fixture. Hazard is being strongly back this week and with good reason – 2 goals and 2 assists in his last 2 outings puts him bang back in form. Only 7.6% ownership as well – this looks a good time to buy before his price rockets further.
Joker – Alexis Sanchez (ARS £11.8) – HUD
I’ve gone premium crazy this week as another big money player completes my picks. 2.8% ownership is the reason why – the Chilean looks back in form and The Gunners also have a long run of favourable fixture clumps – United, Liverpool and Chelsea at home are the only 3 until GW27. He’s got 2 in the last 2 and loves a double digit haul – could be a good outside bet for captaincy this week.
