Introduction

This is part 4 of the FPL managers who contribute to the FFGeek site with good histories who show their teams each week. This will give people a feel for what other managers are doing. It’s a fairly informal thing with no obligation on anyone and these teams may change at anytime before the deadline without further notice. It won’t cover transfers in real time either. It’s just to give an idea of the trends for the week no more.  The teams are shown as their “final-ish” teams so they could change.  Where they have twitter accounts I have shown this and they may update them there or on our Slack Channel which is part of our subscription Patreon site but this is not guaranteed

GW21 review

Looking back, GW 17 was the last time I wrote my thoughts for my FPL team. If anyone does read these articles, I apologise for not writing more regularly. I have had Covid and basically everything just takes longer than normal. The games have been coming thick and fast for all us FPL managers. I personally do not like the relentless schedule with matches played on most days at the best of times. It has, in truth, been a challenge to keep up with. There is little time to watch the matches, read the articles and even start to digest the lessons from each GW. Planning ahead has been almost impossible.

Whether this is related or not, over the last two GWs I have benched a lot of points. Soucek (15) scored a brace in GW 20 whilst Bamford (15) and Dallas (7) both scored in GW 21 with the former also returning two assists. This combined with two consecutive captain fails, has seen my overall rank slip from 46K to 134K. On the bright side, it shows the depth of my FPL squad. There is still a lot of time to climb the overall rankings.

The latest rumour I have heard is that there could well be a DGW in GW24, potentially between Man City and Everton. My plan is to save a transfer as my team looks basically okay this GW.

GW 22 Hold the Transfer

Captaincy Mo Salah

Mo was clinical against West Ham with two goals so I am giving him the armband for the home match against Brighton. If Klopp rests him, I have Bruno at home to an out of form Southampton as my back up.

I think it may help me to write down my benching decisions. I think Johnstone has a better chance of a clean sheet against a fairly toothless Sheffield United than McCarthy has against Man United.

Villa and especially Grealish look good going forwards so Coufal joins him on the bench. The other decision is between Dallas and Soucek. I will bench Bamford if I take the view that he’s a significant injury risk.  Otherwise I will play him and bench Dallas.  Leeds don’t defend well but either player could pick up points.

Good luck everyone and keep safe!

Chris Tucker

Chris’s last 3 seasons overall rank were 41k, 17k and 1k

GW21 points: 49 -4 (FPL average 48), Total points: 1,237, Overall Rank: 447k,  red arrow:  95k,  Team Value: £103.1m

So another shocker of a gameweek, summed up by bringing in Calvert-Lewin last minute for a hit and benching Bamford as a result. That’s a 20 point or so swing right there. Did I mention that I removed Dallas for Cancelo? And another Robertson clean sheet wiped out near the end?

Anyway, this season now just has to be about enjoyment as I can’t catch a break and have given up on a decent OR finish.

So, I think I’m going to start by bringing in Martinez for McCarthy. Although he is no longer cheap, it seems ridiculous to continue not having a stake in the Villa defence. I will no longer not enjoy not owning him!

It’s likely back to captaining Mo. I shouldn’t have lost faith!

Sergio Torija

Sergio’s last 4 seasons were 2k, 596k, 17k and 21k

GW21 points: 24 -4 (FPL average 48), Total points: 1,161, Overall Rank: 1,409k,  red arrow:  514k,  Team Value: £102.4m

“It is being all or nothing lately with my team”, that’s how my team review started last week, and how I can start it this week too. Just this time it on the nothing side. Proper nothing, a Maguire clean sheet was the only points I got. Well had Martinez too who I benched. Five of my selected 11 didn’t even make it to the pitch, including my 3 City players. When it is not to be, it is not to be.

Which brings me to this week, and if my latest run keeps going, it should be an amazing week. I fully expect my missing players all back to the team, particularly the City ones, so I was meaning to save the transfer this week. I suppose that the logical upgrade to the team would be to transfer Rashford out for Salah. I would like to remove Mahrez too, but not this week.

As for captaincy, I will go with a city attacker, provisionally Mahrez, although I might change it to Sterling. Will vice captain from a different game, so probably Salah.

.Good luck everyone

Transfer summary:  likely Rashford out and Salah in

Rob Cosgrove

Rob’s last 4 seasons overall rank were 64k, 45k, 40k and 23k

GW21 points: 43 -4 (FPL average 48), Total points: 1,136, Overall Rank: 1,841k,  red arrow:  251k,  Team Value: £103.6m

What a disaster that was! I can live with Tielemans blanking as captain because I knew it was a massive risk when I did it, but selling Dallas and Harrison who both scored then benching Bamford for 15 points really hurts. Digne and DCL disappointed and that’s now home defeats for us to Leeds, West Ham and Newcastle. So inconsistent it’s frustrating! Best not to dwell on a bad game week because we have more good ones than bad ones overall right?

Onto this week, and I am doing nothing. I considered taking Chilwell out because he got rested for the Burnley game but after Chelsea play Spurs this week they have a good little run so I will be keeping him for now but benching him. I am waiting to see if he has been dropped altogether or it was just rotation.

Captain will be Salah. I think Liverpool are over the rut they were in and are looking back to their scoring ways.
