Aston Villa 1 Shrewsbury 0

Goal:  Hogan

Aston Villa first XI: Steer, Guilbert, Taylor, Konsa, Mings, Bjarnason, Grealish, McGinn, Green, Jota, Davis

Aston Villa second XI: Steer, Bree, Targett, Chester, Hause, Hourihane, O’Hare, Lansbury, Hogan, Hepburn-Murphy, Wesley

Line up wise the first half was probably the stronger of the 2 but still a pretty mixed bunch.

£5.5m mid El Ghazi we’re monitoring but he was not playing in this. Apparently Villa are pursuing winger Trezeguet who would be competition for his place. The player rating of the local paper gave the best performances to £4.5m def Konsa, and £6.0m mids Grealish and Hourihane.  New £6.0m fwd signing Wesley got an assist.

Liverpool 1 Sevilla 2

Goal;  Origi

Liverpool: Lonergan (Mignolet 46′); Alexander-Arnold (Hoever 46′), Phillips (Gomez 46′), Van Dijk (Lovren 46′), Robertson (Larouci 46′, Duncan 80′); Wijnaldum (Fabinho 46′), Henderson (Milner 46′), Oxlade-Chamberlain (Lewis 46′); Wilson (Jones 46′), Woodburn (Kent 46′), Origi (Brewster 46′)

Subs not used: Atherton, Matip

premier league preseason

With the front 3 on post International rest as well as Alisson the lineup is a bit irrelevant.  We’re trying to find out who Van Dijk’s £5.5m CB partner will be but that wasn’t helped here.  In any case we’ll have the Community Shield v Man City the week before to assess that.

Here’s a link to a very good interview with Klopp plus video highlights.  There’s also the this is anfield match report

Spurs 3 Juventus 2

Goals;  Lamela, Moura, Kane

ratings from 90 mins

Starting XI: Gazzaniga (7); Georgiou (6), Tanganga (7), Alderweireld (7), Walker-Peters (8*); Skipp (7), Winks (7), Alli (6), Lamela (8), Son (7); Parrott (8).

Substitutes: Kane (8), Vertonghen (6), Foyth (6), Sissoko (7), Moura (7), Ndombele (8), Roles (7), White (6), Marsh (6).

A bit of a mixed lineup so little learned.  With Trippier gone, Aurier on AFCON rest and £5.0m Foyth suspended for the first 2 games £5.0m Walker Peters performance, especially going forward, becomes a positive or a hindrance to £5.0m Aurier depending on how you look at it.  Good performances by £7.5m Moura and £6.0m Lamela spice up the race for who will fill in for Son while he’s suspended for 2 games.

There’s a 90 min match report, a highlights video and an interesting squawka article to go with this
