FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE GW25 PLAYER RANKINGS – BEST DEFENCES AND DEFENDERS
As I said, just remember the GW26 and GW28 situation
BACKGROUND
Postponed in GW26
Southampton v Arsenal
Man City v Man Utd
These are related to the clubs that are in the EFL final and will have their fixtures postponed.
I’ve marked these teams in red
Those certain of fixtures in GW28
Bournemouth v West Ham
Everton v WBA
Hull v Swansea
These are the fixtures where both clubs are out of the FA Cup and therefore their fixtures should stand in GW28 while others could potentially be postponed depending on 5th round results
I’ve marked these teams in green
DEFENCE GRAPHIC
This is from the excellent site 11tegen11. Sorry it’s not that clear
It’s over the season. Essentially the y axis is shot quality conceded low quality at the bottom high quality shot at the top.
The x axis is frequency of shot conceded. Far left is few shots conceded far right is many.
The place to be is few low quality shots conceded ie the bottom left hand quadrant. That in general terms goes along with my conclusion although I rate Arsenal further down. Interestingly it doesn’t see Spurs as quite the strong defensive outfit I do which may see rocky roads ahead.
The top right hand corner where you’re conceding a load of shots of high quality. Swansea standout as a total disaster along with Bournemouth and West Ham.
THE BEST VALUE AND ATTACKING DEFENDERS
So here’s the table. Effectively I’ve ranked the defences taking into account their defensive stats strength. Added to the table is the rank of easiness of the upcoming next 4 fixtures. Use this link to see the full article on fixture ease. I’ve then given you the best value defender and the best attacking defender. Values are as of Wednesday. If you’re interested in what the top 10 FPL managers I follow have as defenders use this link. It encapsulates the whole season’s stats which is why it’s worth reading the comments sections below the schedule.
BEST TRANSFERS
Looking at the optimum combination of strong defence at an appropriate value, good fixtures and good odds then the best transfers for this gameweek are:
If you’re looking for GW28 players then
Coleman Everton £5.8m
Brunt £WBA £5.1m
Otherwise
Alonso £6.7m
GAPS IN THE SCHEDULE
Man City – who knows what team Pep will put out
Bournemouth – Daniels injured and the team playing like a collection of people who have no idea how to defend plus injuries means it impossible to put someone in who either represents value or is an attacking threat
Man Utd – Jones is injured so for the moment not included although expected back this week in theory.
C Palace – Dann inured with no return date.
SOME FORM COMMENTS
Swansea, Sunderland and Watford continue to post bad stats despite their teams uplifts recently and Sunderlands 2 consecutive clean sheets
Southampton have to be a risk with Van Dijk a long term injury and Fonte sold although some parts of the stats suggest they have been unlucky.
Man Utd, Chelsea and Everton (despite the Bournemouth shambles) continue to post good stats.
CHEAPIE WATCH
Spurs – £4.6m CB Wimmer has not taken his chance to get into the team with Poch playing a back 4 and FPL midfielder Dier dropping in. £4.7m Davies will replace Rose who could be out for a month but officially has no return date
Man City – who knows what team will be put out? As I’ve said before Stones at £4.7m is fantastic value. The issue apart from the rotation is the continual bizaare 1-5 minutes he comes on at the end when on the bench.
Everton – £4.1m Holgate seems to have become a victim of the back 3 disappearing just at the worng time
Southampton – With them conceding goals at an alarming rate £4.0m Stephens must be at risk for Bertrand to switch to CB. 2 injured LB’s in reserve doesn’t make it easy but I imagine Martina or Cedric could move to LB
West Ham – £4.2m Byram should return at RB at the weekend from injury. He is a cheapie possibility for GW28 but the position has been such an issue I would wait as late as possible to see if he can hold it
