FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE GW26 PLAYER RANKINGS – BEST DEFENCES AND DEFENDERS

As I said, just remember the GW26 and GW28 situation

BACKGROUND

GW26

The following fixtures have been removed and will need to be rescheduled:

Southampton v Arsenal
Man City v Man Utd

GW28

GW28 is FA Cup quarter final week. Games involving teams in the quarters will be postponed leading to a much reduced fixture list. In fact only 4 confirmed at the moment

Definitely staying in GW28 as both teams out of FA Cup

Bournemouth v West Ham
Everton v West Brom
Hull v Swansea
Liverpool v Burnley

Subject to a replay

Man City v Stoke (Man City v Huddersfield replay is 28 Feb) – Stoke are out of the FA Cup. Man City need to lose the replay for the fixture to stand

Should be removed from the gameweek as teams have progressed to the quarters

Middlesbrough v Sunderland – Middlesborough are through to the quarters
Chelsea v Watford – Chelsea are through to the quarters
Southampton v Man Utd – Man Utd beat Blackburn and are through to the quarters
Crystal Palace v Spurs – Spurs beat Fulham and are through to the quarters
Arsenal v Leicester – Arsenal beat Sutton and are through to the quarters

THE BEST VALUE AND ATTACKING DEFENDERS

So here’s the table. Effectively I’ve ranked the defences taking into account their defensive stats strength. Added to the table is the rank of easiness of the upcoming next 4 fixtures. Use this link to see the full article on fixture ease. I’ve then given you the best value defender and the best attacking defender. Values are as of Monday. If you’re interested in what the top 10 FPL managers I follow have as defenders use this link. It encapsulates the whole season’s stats which is why it’s worth reading the comments sections below the schedule.

BEST TRANSFERS

Looking at the optimum combination of strong defence at an appropriate value, good fixtures and good odds then the best transfers for this gameweek are:

Alonso Chelsea £6.7m

Lovren Liverpool £4.9m (if fit)

Coleman Everton £5.9m

Brunt WBA £5.1m

SOME FORM COMMENTS

A few interesting form comments

Southampton, Man City and WBA have posed some recent good defensive stats despite some indifferent results over the season

Sunderland, Leicester and Bournemouth post very bad stats consistent with performances

CHEAPIE WATCH

Man City – Stones at £4.7m is fantastic value. He’s now started the last 3 although the Champions League could again cause rotation problems.  There’s also the continual  1-5 minutes he comes on at the end when on the bench.

Southampton – The acquisition of Caceres could put £4.0m Stephens gametime

West Ham – Makeshift RB Kouyate started again at RB instead of £4.2m Byram.

Arsenal – £4.7m LB Gibbs started again for Arsenal and Monreal started against Sutton.  Blanks don’t help but worth monitoring post GW28
