bandwagons and sinking ships, Fantasy Premier League

Here’s our fantasy premier league GW38 transfer tips article where we outline the bandwagons and sinking ships. These are the most transferred in players for GW38 (bandwagons) and most transferred out players (sinking ships) so far in the FPL gameweek.

FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE GW38 TRANSFER TIPS – THE BANDWAGONS AND SINKING SHIPS

This was written before Tuesdays Swansea v Southampton game

As a statement of the obvious GW38 is the last game of the season but there are still games to play in GW37.  Unless you think there’s going to be a price rise or drop in one of your players and you won’t have the funds to make the transfer you want then I see little point in making a transfer until as late as you can.  Personally I’m not sure even in those circumstances I would make an early transfer.  I would probably adjust my target.

How results pan out over the next few days could also change whether teams need to get results on the final day and hence their motivation and the managers team selection.

THE BANDWAGONS

These are the 5 most transferred IN players so far in the gameweek.

Stats definition:

PP90: The FPL points per 90 minutes played.

ATGS/CS odds GW38: Anytime goal scorer odds or clean sheet odds for defenders for GW38.  There are no odds available at the moment.  I will fill it in later when they are available.

U Stats position rank. The ranking from an attacking point of view for their FPl position of Fwd, Mid or Def . I’ve used the rankings from up to the end of GW35 in my underlying stats article as I’ve been unable to update them.

Pts last 4 starts:  The FPL points accumulated in their last 4 starts

Zaha

The man who’s the top of the FPL’s form stat although you may take that as not being the indicator that it could be when you think that CMs James McArthur and Jake Livermore are 2nd and 3rd.

However Roy Hodgsons decision to play Zaha up front and dropping Benteke has played handsome dividends with 4 goals and 4 assists in the 8 games since Zaha came back from injury.  These returns have been backed up by some impressive underlying stats as well.  Palace are now focused on being a fast counter attacking team with Zaha at the heart of it

Palace’s final fixture at home to WBA may not be the great fixture it seems given that they’ve kept Man Utd, Spurs and Newcastle goal less in their last 4 fixtures.  That may depend on whether WBA still have something to play for as if either Swansea or Southampton win tonight then WBA are relegated

38 West Brom (H)

Aubameyang

Aubameyang still has a game in GW37 away to Leicester.

2 goals and an assist in the Arsene Wenger home farewell game showed what a fantastic finisher he is.   Aubameyang almost turned the wide position into an asset by drifting into central positions without being picked up.

It’s been a great start to his PL career with 10 starts and 1 sub appearance seeing 8 goals plus 4 assists and returns in 7 of the 10 starts.

If I was looking for issues I would probably say a wide starting position may not always be the asset he made it into v Burnley and that his underlying stats are a bit up and down.  However it’s hard to argue with the returns to date.

His final game is an away game at Huddersfield and given that he hasn’t been eligible for the Europa League games I would be surprised if he doesn’t play.  Unless Huddersfield win at Chelsea and secure their premier league status, which seems unlikely, then Huddersfield will have everything to play for in GW38.  Although Huddersfield have been partial to the odd thrashing their performance v Man City shows that it won’t necessarily be easy for Chelsea.

38 Huddersfield (A)

Firmino

Liverpool have no further games in GW37.

Unless Chelsea lose to Huddersfield in GW37 Liverpool are going to need something from their last game v Brighton for a top 4 place.   For that reason alone it seems inconceivable that Firmino won’t play in GW38 even allowing for the  upcoming UCL final.  It’s also worth mentioning that the final is 13 days after as well.

Brighton are safe and a pretty timid side away from home as well as only Stoke have less away points.  Given the season long relegation pressure they are under and the fact that they confirmed their safety only last Friday that relief from pressure may make them ideal opponents for Liverpool.

Firmino has blanked in his last 3 games and it’s only 1 goal in his last 6 games although 2 of those were as a sub.  Apart from the game he scored in his underlying stats over that period have been pretty atrocious as well.

38 Brighton (H)

Salah

In case you have skipped Firmino then I’ll repeat what I said for Firmino for Salah as an introduction to Liverpools position.

Salah has now blanked in his last 2 games.  That’s something he hasn’t done since gameweek 7 and 8.  That fact and his PP90 above tell you all you need to know about his season.  Unbelievable just doesn’t even come close to telling the story.

He certainly was very disappointing against Chelsea and barely did anything.  However apart from the Man Utd game in GW30 he has produced fantastic underlying stats in every other game in the last 10.  I certainly won’t be writing him off after 2 blanks.

38 Brighton (H)

Giroud

Chelsea have a home game v Huddersfield in GW37 before their GW38 fixture

3 goals and 1 assist in 5 starts plus 7 sub appearances totalling 114 minutes is not too bad although those returns have come in only 3 of those games.  He’s now started the last 3 games.  2 have been ahead of Morata and 1 as his partner.

His underlying stats over the season have been excellent but not so great in the last 3 games.

Chelsea’s last game is away to Newcastle and unless they fail to beat Huddersfield they will have everything to play for on the final day although their fate will be out of their hands.  That should secure Girouds starting spot with his winning goal v Liverpool certainly helping the situation.   They play a Newcastle side already safe and although Newcastle have a reasonable home record if there insipid first half performance vs a toothless Watford side is anything to go by Chelsea won’t have 2 many issues.

38 Newcastle (A)

The Sinking Ships

These are the 5 most transferred OUT players so far in the gameweek.

FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE gw38 transfer tips

Lukaku

Looking like he’s got a PL season ending ankle injury.

His place v Brighton was taken by Rashford which was unsuccessful to say the least.  It’s possible Martial could take it but he was also poor v Brighton and is surrounded by transfer rumours.  That leaves Sanchez  as a possibility assuming he’s fit.

38 Watford (H)

Vardy

Leicester still have a home game v Arsenal left in GW37.

Vardy has blanked in his last 3 matches after scoring in the previous 4.  Leicester, amid rumours of dressing room unrest with the manager, have not scored in the last 3 games including a 5-0 loss to Crystal Palace.  Vardy’s underlying stats have been ordinary over the season but he has been able to over perform them historically.  However after posting very good stats in his run of 4 consecutive games scoring,  his last 3 games have been fairly underwhelming.

Over the season he’s started 35 games and scored 17 goals and 2 assists.  He’s returned a goal or assist in just over half those games which is a good level of consistency.  However he still only has his GW1 double figure FPL haul as his one and only.

Leicesters last game will be away to Spurs. If Chelsea beat Huddersfield in GW37 then Leicester will be facing a side that will be at full strength as Spurs will go into it potentially needing some sort of result to be assured of a top 4 place.

38 Spurs (A)

Son HM

Spurs still have a GW37 match at home to a safe Newcastle.

As I said above, if Chelsea beat Huddersfield in GW37 then Leicester will be facing a side that will be at full strength as Spurs will go into it potentially needing some sort of result to be assured of a top 4 place.

Son’s problem has been uncertainty over starts and when he starts a propensity to be a target for Poch’s sub board.  When on the pitch he has been reasonably consistent returning a goal or assist in 12 of 26 starts.  He’s also been explosive getting double figure point hauls in 6 of those 12 returning games.

He didn’t start in the first game of GW37 so that would give him a reasonable chance of starting v Newcastle. Given that most of his best performances have been at home if Spurs need a result then you would give him a reasonable chance of playing in the final game vs a Leicester team that appear to be in the process of spontaneously combusting.  A reasonable chance is hardly a definite and whether you hold or sell maybe depend on other pressures in your team

38 Leicester (H)

B Davies

Spurs still have a GW37 match at home to a safe Newcastle.

After the Danny Rose injury fiasco at the start of the season when he was supposed back in the early part of the season but didn’t return to GW11 you would have been thinking Davies was safe to the end of the season.  That would be too predictable for Spurs although Poch could have been ordered by Levy to play him so prospective purchasers could assess his fitness.

I suspect Davies will play v Newcastle which will make it difficult to predict who will play v Leicester.  Given Leicester haven’t scored in the last 3, have nothing to play for and are supposed to be fighting an internal war of players v manager that is a shame for FPL owners.  Again whether you use it as a transfer will depend on other pressures in your team.  Just as a side note Davies has come on with a minute to go in 3 games this season.

38 Leicester (H)

Arnautovic

West Ham have a GW37 game left at home to Man Utd.  Their win at Leicester means they are safe from relegation.

Given that Arnautovic has a knock it’s difficult to assess what the motivation would be for Moyes to risk anything by playing him v Man Utd and then potentially against an Everton team with nothing to play for in GW38.

As a midfielder playing as a striker he’s been a revelation this season after a slow start with 10 goals plus 6 assists in 26 starts plus 3 as sub.

It’s just whether he will play given he’s carrying a knock and West Ham are safe.

38 Everton (H)
