fantasy premier league key underlying stats summary – part 1

Fantasy Premier League

Joseph Crilley is doing his excellent gameweek reviews including the gameweek underlying stats. Here’s part 1 of fantasy premier league key underlying stats in cumulative summary form. We include shots in the box, Shots on target, key passes and many more mainly from the excellent site whoscored.com

FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE KEY UNDERLYING STATS SUMMARY – PART 1

Firstly there’s a load of graphics and stats coming up so if you just want the key points there’s a section at the end to jump to

Here we are going to show you the top players in terms of the key underlying stats for all 3 positions. Underlying stats help you see what’s behind a players performance. At one extreme if a player has scored 5 goals and you see he’s only had 5 shots then it’s going to make you wonder if that’s sustainable. On the reverse side if a player is going through a barren spell but you see that he’s been regularly getting shots then that may convince you to hold him a little longer.

It’s obvioulsy not possible to give stats on every player so what I’ve done is pick the top players out of key stats for the 3 positions.   Those stats are all free public stats on whoscored.com. At the moment as we’re 3 games in the stats are all on a pergame basis with a minimum 2 appearances. Once we get further in it will be per 90 mins and subject to minimum thresholds

Remember were only 3 games in and that should be taken into account with the data.

Also remember whoscored.com doesn’t classify players in the same position necessarily as FPL does

Summary schedule forwards

fantasy premier league underlying stats review

Of all the forwards with underlying stats Kane ticks the boxes better than anyone.  He just hasn’t turned it into goals as yet.  For those holding Kane, these stats offer hope that this will turn.

A number of other forwards feature behind Kane.  Lukaku, Mounie, Lacazette and Firmino have good all round stats.  Rodriguez, Jesus, Vardy Chicharito and Gabbiadini all have good poachers stats.  The poor stats of Aguero and Benteke standout.

Interestingly Choupo Moting the Stoke midfielder playing as a forward appears in the stats.  He’s worth watching.

Forwards Welbeck, Rashford, Okazaki and Slimani appears as midfielders by whoscored so I’ve not tried to integrate them into the stats

Summary schedule midfielders

The midfield shows how players are either goal scorers through shots or assisters through key passes with only Eriksen featuring in both sets of stats.  Of the goalscorers Salah tops the stats with Mane close Behind.  Alli and Antonio standout as players who can get themselves into forward positions.

No surprises with the assisters with the top 4 challenging teams all supplying someone except for Everton and Liverpool although Liverpool have through Firmino as a forward.  De Bruyne just scrapes in.
