Introduction
This article consists of a schedule ranking Midfielders based on their underlying stats over the season of the season. xG and xA per game are converted to FPL attacking points. Stats are from the excellent free site FBREF Players injured or suspended or with significant gametime risk are excluded from the schedule.
There’s also their FPL points per match as well as their value for money rating. The higher the better. Above 10 is the gold standard
The rankings are purely mathematical and there is no adjustment for fixtures coming up. The attacking players fixture ease schedule is below
Prices are as of 13 December
Note: The Brentford v Man Utd game is off. I have excluded those players
The ranking schedule
As I said above the rankings are based on their xG and xA per game converted to FPL attacking points
There is no adjustment to a players rank for fixtures upcoming
Transfer suggestions for GW17
Ideally I’m looking for players that have a good entry point fixture as well as a good overall fixture ranking in the upcoming 6 gameweeks plus represent overall value for money and consistency of performances. The suggestions are not in any particular order
Salah
Hope fully I don’t need to explain this and if you’re reading this you already have him but just in case.
Jota
4 goals in his last 4 starts. Came on as sub and performed excellently in GW16 after a fitness scare midweek. Playing as a CF in the best attacking team in the PL at the moment for a great value price. Will have competition from Firmino but Firmino’s still doubtful and Newcastle is the best possible entry point.
Foden
For me probably the best of the Man City attackers as he can play CF and LW in the front 3 meaning he has options rather than direct competition for 1 spot.
At the moment Bernardo Silva is probably the safest gametime player because of his exceptional all round contribution to the team
Mount
Finally got some gametime having started the last 3 but Tuchel’s 2 systems make it difficult to predict gametime longer term.
The Lukaku and Werner up top system played before Lukaku’s injury made it difficult for any of the AMs to get into the team. The Havertz false 9 system does allow 2 AMs behind the CF and suits Mount.
3 goals and 2 assists in those last 3 starts. In the 9 games he’s started he’s returned a goal or assist in 6 of those games. An incredible 67%.
You just have to hope for the best when the team sheet comes out
Bowen
Did alot of pretty unproductive output vs Burnley and that’s the risk you take with Bowen. You either get the amazing version or the fairly unproductive version.
A bit of a tricky entry point v Arsenal but 3 goals and 7 assists in 15 starts and good underlying stats and fixtures generally is a good mix
Gallagher
Why this box to box genius was ever turned into a CDM temporarily is beyond me. His ability to get into the box is why he’s scored 6 goals and 5 assists in his 15 starts returning a goal or assist in 7 games which is a respectable 47% consistency return rate
The fixture Ease schedule
Here you can see each players upcoming fixtures over the next 6 gameweeks
