ntroduction
This article consists of a schedule ranking midfielders based on their underlying stats over the season of the season. xG and xA per game are converted to FPL attacking points. Stats are from the excellent free site FBREF Players injured or suspended or with significant gametime risk are excluded from the schedule.
There’s also their FPL points per match as well as their value for money rating. The higher the better. Above 10 is the gold standard. D28 is double gameweek 28 and FB30 means they have a guaranteed fixture in GW30 which is a blank due to FA Cup quarter clashes.
The rankings are purely mathematical and there is no adjustment for fixtures coming up or the amount of additional games or blanks. The attacking players fixture ease schedule is below
Prices and stats are as of the 22 February and doesn’t include Wednesdays games
The Patreon version of the article has Joe’s Transfer Planner and Points Prediction Models highest scoring midfielders over the next 6 gameweeks
The ranking schedule
As I said above the rankings are based on their xG and xA per game converted to FPL attacking points
There is no adjustment to a players rank for fixtures upcoming or blanks or potential doubles. See transfer suggestions below for the best players to transfer in from the schedule
Players with no fixtures in GW27 ie Liverpool Arsenal and Chelsea are not on the schedule
Transfer suggestions for GW27
The fundamentals of looking for players that have a good entry point fixture as well as a good overall fixture ranking in the upcoming 6 gameweeks plus represent overall value for money and consistency of performances are what I’m looking for. The suggestions are not in any particular order
Sterling
The £10.7m Man City mid has started 16 games plus 6 as sub for 10 goals and 3 assists although he’s only returned a goal or assist in 9 of those 22 games which is a very poor 39%.
Recent form has been better. Since GW12 he’s started 13 games and returned in 8 of those for an elite return % of 62%.
His underlying stats have been exceptional over the season and even more consistent in recent matches
Fixtures could be better but Man City can score against anyone and an entry point against an inconsistent Everton defence after losing to Spurs couldn’t be much better
Son
The Spurs Mid has started 21 games for 9 goals and 7 assists and is playing virtually as a strike partner to Harry Kane.
He’s returned a goal or assist in 13 of those 21 games again at an elite level of 62%. His underlying stats are excellent and he has consistently over performed them as well.
The entry point at home to all out attack Leeds gives him great potential on the counter where him and Kane are lethal.
Great fixtures
Mahrez
10 starts plus 9 as sub doesn’t exactly inspire confidence that he will be a regular starter although he has returned a goal or assist in 4 of the 9 times he’s come off the bench. Overall it’s an impressive 8 goals plus 5 assists returning a goal or assist in 10 of those 19 appearances. Considering the amount of sub appearances that an excellent consistency rate.
You have to gamble that his form does earn him a more regular starting spot. He is the designated penalty taker
As I said above, fixtures could be better but Man City can score against anyone and an entry point against an inconsistent Everton defence after losing to Spurs couldn’t be much better
Raphinha
The Leeds mid has started 22 games plus 1 as sub for 9 goals plus 2 assists returning in 11 of those for a consistent return rate of 48% for the price. The flip side of that though is he’s yet to get a double figure return. Has been taken off at halftime and been on the bench for 1 game as well recently but hopefully that has been worked through as he is unquestionably Leeds outstanding player
Overall the fixtures are very good and they are one of the few teams that has a double in 28/29 and a fixture guaranteed in the big blank week of GW30.
Maddison
To have any faith in Maddison you have to focus on the 11 appearances since GW13 where he’s scored 5 goals plus 6 assists returning a goal or assist in 6 of those games (55%). He was strangely on the bench for the last fixture after starting in the 10 before that. Rodgers has been tinkering with the attack and defence as Leicester have struggled for form so expect the odd one of those.
His form though hopefully will see him return to the team as regular. The fixtures are good although there are no doubles scheduled. However Leicester still have 3 games to be rearranged so there should be more to come and in the meantime the fixtures are good
The fixture Ease schedule
Here you can see each players upcoming fixtures over the next 6 gameweeks
Postponed games sorted by club
These potentially can become double gameweeks although we’ve already seen that this isn’t necessarily going to be the case
