FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE BEST MIDFIELD TRANSFERS GW14 – “ONES TO WATCH”
Here’s the table of stats. As I said in earlier articles I was concerned that the table of stats had become a little cluttered and hard to read so I’ve replaced it with a simplified version. The headings are self explanatory. The fixt ease column shows the easiness ranking of the next 6 and 3 fixtures. Use this link to see the full fixture ease article. Also if you want to see the midfielders the top 10 FPL managers I follow have in their team click here .Prices are as of Wednesday. The table of stats has 23 players but the narrative concentrates on the top 10 midfielders only. You can also view the full table of stats for all 23 players with lots of additional columns of stats as a google spreadsheet with the link immediately below
Here’s the link to the google internet spreadsheet for the full stats tables with alot more info.
Here’s some narrative on the top 10 players. Not feasible to do all 20 unfortunately
SANCHEZ
The Arsenal midfielder is currently playing as a striker and it seems some way off before Giroud will be replacing him in that position. He’s more of a big point scorer than a consistent returner and is returning a goal or assist in less than 50% of his games. However in the 6 times he has returned in 5 of those he’s scored more than 10 FPL points. The underlying stats are good but he’s certainly doesn’t have the best shooting stats. Like Walcott recent games have also seen a drop off possibly due to a couple of difficult opponents in Spurs and Man Utd

Stoke (H)
Everton (A)
Man City (A)
West Brom (H)
Crystal Palace (H)
HAZARD
2 consecutive blanks and a tough fixture next are the negatives for transferring in the Chelsea LAM this gameweek. However he is the top point scoring per match FPL midfielder with 7 goals and 3 assists in his 13 matches. He also has good underlying stats to back this up and is one of the few midfielders to have penalty duties
Man City (A)
West Brom (H)
Sunderland (A)
Crystal Palace (A)
Bournemouth (H)
Stoke (H)
FIRMINO
While were starting with negatives lets get them out for Firmino. Firstly and most importantly he is an injury doubt and needs to be monitored especially after Klopp made some strange remarks that he wouldn’t have been able to start on Tuesday if it was the Champions League final. The 2nd negative is that the injury to Coutinho will mean he is likely to see his central striking role to either Origi or Sturridge depending on the fitness of Sturridge. Does have great underlying stats and has been a consistent returner though.
Bournemouth (A)
West Ham (H)
Middlesbrough (A)
Everton (A)
Stoke (H)
Man City (H)
WALCOTT
Can the Arsenal RWM be an alternative for Sanchez if you don’t have the cash? Doesn’t have the returns or the striker position but has been more consistent if less explosive. Does have arguably better underlying shooting stats though. 1 returning game in his last 4 is a little disappointing after the great start of 4 goals and 3 assists in his first 8 matches. Has had 2 hard games in that last 4 though against Spurs and Man Utd.
West Ham (A)
Stoke (H)
Everton (A)
Man City (A)
West Brom (H)
Crystal Palace (H)
MANE
Another straight alternative for Coutinho and in some ways the forgotten one of the Liverpool AMs. He’s slightly more expensive than Firmino and his returns and underlying stats aren’t quite as good but what he does have is no worries about gametime compared to Firmino who has some injury doubts
Bournemouth (A)
West Ham (H)
Middlesbrough (A)
Everton (A)
Stoke (H)
Man City (H)
DE BRUYNE
So we know now after the Man City creative force was rested on the bench for the GW13 Burnley game that he isn’t safe from rotation. Has been very consistent this season and has returned in his last 3 starts. Only Payet can compete on the creating chances underlying stat and that shows in 9 assists. However there isn’t much in the way of shooting stats going on.
Chelsea (H)
Leicester (A)
Watford (H)
Arsenal (H)
Hull (A)
Liverpool (A)
SIGURDSSON
The Swansea CAM/false 9 is the only midfielder to have returned a goal or assist in all his last 4 games. He has the perfect combination of form and fixtures at the moment and the added bonus of set pieces and maybe pens. The only negative is the Spurs fixture next
Spurs (A)
Sunderland (H)
West Brom (A)
Middlesbrough (A)
West Ham (H)
Bournemouth (H)
PEDRO
What Walcott is to Sanchez, Pedro is to Hazard. A cheaper alternative to think about. Doesn’t match Hazard for returns or underlying stats although doing a good job on consistency. The advantages are that he seems fairly first choice and that he’s £3m cheaper. Away to Man City isn’t the greatest entry point though.
Man City (A)
West Brom (H)
Sunderland (A)
Crystal Palace (A)
Bournemouth (H)
Stoke (H)
OZIL
The Arsenal CAM was last seasons Mr Consistency for a decent part of it. However this season has been disappointing. Could it all be down to no Giroud? At this stage he’s only got 2 assists. To put that into context Duncan Watmore of Sunderland has twice as many. It’s not as if he’s been really unlucky. He’s not even producing the creating chances stats. Jason Puncheon has a better per minute creating chances stat. What he does have though is pedigree (last season he got 17 assists), good fixtures and a CAM position in a very good attacking team. He has also been urged by Wenger to get forward more and that has been apparent in games and he has scored 3 goals so far this season.
West Ham (A)
Stoke (H)
Everton (A)
Man City (A)
West Brom (H)
Crystal Palace (H)
ERIKSEN
If ever you’re going to get a Spurs player in your team now is the time to do it with a home game against Swansea. I personally passed up the chance for Eriksen and Alli and took a 4 point hit to get Kane in the team. Eriksen is the creative hub of the team and the set piece provider. Doesn’t tend to provide underlying stats and can be a little Coutinho like with his shooting from outside the box. This is mainly about fixtures as his returns a pretty poor with little form , returns or consistency. The goal against Chelsea in GW13 was his first return in 5 games
Swansea (H)
Man Utd (A)
Hull (H)
Burnley (H)
Southampton (A)
Watford (A)
Hope that helps your transfer decisions. Remember there are more players and more stats in the expanded version of the google spreadsheet above. Here again is the link to the sheet
