Here’s our fantasy premier league GW14 defenders article where we give our defender and GK player rankings for gameweek 14. There’s a table of information and player suggestions to help you make a transfer choice
fantasy premier league GW14 defenders – player rankings for Defs and Gks
Avoiding the preamble
If you just want a quick transfer suggestion I’ve given these after the schedule if you want to skip all the preamble.
Stats definitions:
I’ve firstly ordered the teams by what I think is their defensive strength based their goals conceded, xG conceded and the shots per game conceded. These stats are for 19/20 only. You can see the rank of each stat mentioned above in the first 3 columns.
The stats after that are their:
My suggested defender for that team. I’ve tried to take into account what I think is an appropriate price for the team as well as their attacking and points potential. The table then shows their value and current 19/20 PPM
The likely starting GK for the team with the same price and PPM next to them
A bookies odds for a clean sheet for GW14. The lower the better obviously.
The fixture ease rank. The team facing the easiest attacking teams over the next 6 gameweeks is ranked 1. See our fixture ease article
Prices are as of Wednesday 26 November

The Schedule
If you want access to copy and paste the schedule here’s the google spreadsheet link which I’ve set out differently if you want to sort different columns. Just go File> make a copy to get your own version
The teams are ranked by defensive strength only. Fixtures are not factored in.
Transfer suggestions for GW14
Here I trying to find a combination of defensive strength, a good next fixture and fixtures beyond that for me this week there are 6.
If you want to see the teams next fixtures I’ve put the fixture ease schedule showing the next 6 gameweeks below
Leicester
If you’re looking for the cheapest player in the defence then that’s CB Soyuncu. If you’re looking for more attacking potential then I would go for Chilwell. He’s £0.8m more expensive than Soyuncu but £0.6m cheaper than Pereira and has better underlying stats xG/xA as well as volumes of shots and key passes.
Liverpool
The fixture ease schedule is distorted by the postponed game in GW18. However in the 4 games coming up there is excellent clean sheet potential and there are very few better entry points than home to Brighton. Alexander Arnold is my favourite pick due to his underlying stats being far better than Robertsons although Robertson has a better PPM.
Man Utd
Similar to Liverpool that the underlying defensive stats are their even if the clean sheets aren’t. However unlike Liverpool they don’t have a player to provide an attacking hedge in the event that the clean sheets don’t appear. However I think their schedule is good enough for a gamble with Maguire.
If you’re willing to gamble further then there’s £4.0m LB Brandon Williams. Luke Shaw apparently is training so should be ready to return soon although you can never say the words “fitness” and “return date” unless the word before return date is “unknown”.
Sheffield United
Away to Wolves may not be my favourite entry point but anyone without Lundstram is playing with 15 points of fire at anytime. As a player classified as an FPL defender who seems to become an attacking midfielder when they have possession and is great on the counter attack he’s a dangerous player not to own.
If you’re willing to gamble without him this week then next week home to Newcastle is a must.
Henderson is also a good GK option it just depends on your view of a double up on the Sheffield defence as Lundstram should be the priority
Chelsea
Great entry point home to West Ham and a defence that is better than the goals conceded column suggests. Tomori is my pick. Unfortunately there is little attacking potential there. Emerson has great volume attacking stats but the quality is poor but if you’re swimming in cash at £5.5m maybe worth a punt.
£5.0m Reece James though if he can establish himself over Azpilicueta is the player to go for from an attacking and value perspective
Wolves
Personally I would go for broke with Doherty at £6.0m or leave it alone. He’s an excellent attacking wing back who can score as well as assist.
The fixture ease schedule for defensive players
Here’s a graphic where the teams are ranked by the ease of the attacking teams they face over the next 6 gameweeks.
The clean sheet schedule
My schedule tries to focus on the stats that will lead to clean sheets rather than clean sheets themselves but I though it would be worth while getting the clean sheet schedule from the premier league site
Goalkeeper save %
Here’s another schedule which shows you a goalkeeper save %. It’s not a ranking in itself as you can see there’s no correlation between % and clean sheets but does give you some idea of GKs who are good shot stoppers. It’s from the stats site fbref.com
