Introduction

Firstly if you’re new to the site my last 4 seasons overall ranks are 17k, 36k, 17k and 21k.

GW32 review after Monday

GW32 points after Monday 53 on triple captain (FPL average 25) Total points 2,065, Overall Rank: 26k, green arrow 6k.  Team Value: £103.3m

I’ve now used all my chips

Here’s the points after Mondays games:

So far then a 6k green arrow to 26k overall rank. Only 2 players out of 7 who have started returned a goal, assist or clean sheet. The green arrow is solely down to Kane being my triple captain.

It could have been worse for me if Noble hadn’t been subbed so Lingard could take the penalty (and only just get it btw).

If you read my team selection article for GW32 you’ll know I went against the bookies odds and Joe’s transfer planner and points projection tool to put Holding in the lineup instead of Stones which is already looking like a mistake. Arsenal conceded and Stones didn’t play in the FA Cup semi. When will I learn that I always get burned when I don’t follow my own rules.

I still have Martinez, Rudiger, Castagne and Iheanacho to play plus the 2 Spurs players to go so more twists and turns to come.

It looks pretty certain Kane won’t play in the 2nd game which is a shame and I have this feeling of deja vu in that this has happened to me in the past with Kane but I can pin point when?

A few words about potential upcoming doubles and blanks

I’m sure most of you have seen the proposals to move fixtures around to allow fans into stadiums for the last 2 gameweeks of the season. This would create some doubles in 35 and blanks in 36 and would be the logical time to add the yet to be rearranged Aston Villa v Everton and Palace v Southampton.

I’ve talked about this in my fixture ease article but to make it easier here’s the schedule from that article. Just to be clear though this is by no means guaranteed and relys on the positive Covid targets.

So I have Rudiger, Fernandes, Iheanacho, Castagne and Holding who would have a double and then a blank. So to field a full team in 36 I would need to dump 2. Castagne being an obvious 1 of the 2.

I also have Martinez and Forster who have a double and then a fixture in GW36.

Of those 4 clubs that have a double in 35 and a fixture in 36 in Aston Villa, Everton, Palace and Southampton the only additional players I would want are Calvert Lewin and maybes on Watkins, Richarlison and Zaha.

The question is whether I start prepping for it now or whether I just carry over 2 into GW35 and deal with it there.

At the moment I’m happy with my rank and if the season finished now 26k would be a good result. These doubles and blanks as far as I’m concerned just add the possibility of unwanted variance.

Transfer thoughts

2 free transfers and £0.1m in the bank

Alexander Arnold thoughts

At the moment my main priority is to get Alexander Arnold into my team instead of Phillips. Newcastle is a great entry point.

The injury to Kane may give me the opportunity to do that but the tricky bit is that he doesn’t play in GW33 and GW34 is Sheffield United. Regular readers will know how I hate taking someone out before a good fixture. That pretty much rules out Son and Kane unless there’s some definitive information on Kane.

I can do a -4 for Jota and Castagne or Lingard and Castagne. Neither are ideal and are swapping one problem for another espcially with Jota playing Newcastle.

The meltdown option is to take out Fernandes which again is swapping one problem for another. Leeds is a better option to take him out than previously it has been and it’s Liverpool in GW34 so there is some sense in it but I’d rather not go there

Kane replacements if injury serious

A forward replacement for Kane isn’t easy. I would have £8.1m to spend if I wanted Alexander Arnold which would rule out Lacazette. I think my favourite would be Calvert Lewin if he’s fit. His recent form is 1 goal and 1 assist in his last 6 which isn’t earth shattering but his underlying stats are better than that. Entry point at home to Arsenal isn’t helpful.

Other than that it’s tricky. To show how tricky it is I’m even considering Chris Wood. He has form in 3 goals and 2 assists is last 6 starts and his underlying stats over that period are good. It’s just Burnley aren’t a team you naturally trust in the attacking sense. Again Wolves away entry point isn’t helpful.

Anyway alot of time to think so I’m going to pontificate a bit more.

Team structure

Regular readers will know that I categorise players as either Template, Template replacement, difference makers or bench players.

Template is defined by being owned by 7 of the 10 top FPL managers I follow. I generally have them in my team irrespective of my thoughts about them as it protects my rank downsize. The rest of the categories are, hopefully, self explanatory

So at the moment I have the full template in place with just the defence and Lingard as difference makers.

Lineup issues

At the moment GW33 has blanks for Man City and Spurs for the EFL Cup final and Southampton and Fulham who were the league opponents in GW33.

So before transfers Kane, Son and Stones are my bench. Vydra and Holding are the most likely to go to the bench after transfers

Captain Choice

I’ve yet to put up a captain poll but I’m imaging the Captain favourite will be Salah home v Newcastle with Fernandes away v Leeds. I guess Vardy/Iheanacho could also come into the mix.

Prior to seeing any polls I’ll be going for Salah

Here’s the team prior to any transfers being made

Hope your gameweek is going well so far
