fantasy premier league GW4 tips – analysing the teams of 10 top FPL managers

Here’s our fantasy premier league GW4 tips article where we analyse the teams of top FPL 10 managers. These 10 managers have not finished outside the overall rank of the top 10k in the last 3 seasons. Considering how variable the last 3 years have been this is remarkable consistency and shows an ability to adapt strategy in different seasons. It also gives you a view other than my own on strategy and player selection.  It was another difficult week for the managers.

This season we welcome back 4 of last seasons managers who were the subject of our article. We add to that a new 6 managers. Stats of these managers are unbelievable and every bit as impressive as last season

1. The overall average finishing overall rank of the top 10 managers in the last 3 seasons is 2,963

2. The top 10 FPL managers have not been out of the top 10k in the last 3 seasons (ie 30 times playing)

3. All 10 have finished in the top 1,000 in the last 3 seasons

The bad start continues for the top 10 FPL managers.  7 of the 10 had red arrows.

The average score of the managers in GW3 was 46 compared to the average of 43. Thats 3 points and 7% above the average score. High score of the 10 was 57. The low score was 34. A spread of 23 for a fairly low scoring gameweek.  It’s also worth noting that this was done against a background of a number of managers taking point deductions for additional transfers.

The average overall rank of the top 10 FPL managers saw a worsening to 1.288 million compared to 1.176 million in the last gameweek. An average rank worsening of 112k. The best rank is 359k and the lowest 2.577 million. If you calculated the median rank then that worsened to 1.361 million compared to 1.147 million last gameweek. A worsening of rank of 214k. At the moment only 4 have overall ranks inside 1 million.

The average value sees a slight improvement to £100.4m from £100.3m

If you’re interested my score was poor at 43 and resulted in a 97k red arrow to 317k . I had a higher score than only 3 the 10 managers not taking into account hits. My overall rank is now 317k compared to 220k last gameweek. A worsening of rank of 97k. However I’m bizarrely ahead in OR terms of all 10 of the top managers. My team value is the same as the last gameweek at £100.3m. My total score is 179 points.

As we said last week, the celebrity manager we followed last season finished around the 20k mark so he’s not in the group this season. This season were going to focus on the manager each week who had the highest finish with an amazing overall rank of 15 last season believe it or not.

 fantasy premier league GW4 TIPS

His transfer this week was Jesus out Kane in and Ward Prowse out and Cork in to fund it. His score this week was 49 and his rank 359k with a points total of 178. He’s the top ranked of the 10 FPL managers

  1. Wow! No other way to describe what has transpired in the first 3 GWs. It’s been a mix of the good, bad and this week…the ugly. Like the 4 managers who brought in Eriksen, I followed suite and moved KDB. Having had enough of a subpar City team (Kompany and Jesus as well), I was hoping for a better return from Spurs. We didn’t get it this week, but I feel better with Eriksen in my midfield than KDB, who has already dropped to 9.9m

On the week, I am still holding true to my 5-2-3 formation, which has gained me 159 points on the season. It’s been the lack of captain points, just 6 points through 3 GWs that have shorted me probably 20-30 points overall. Captained Kane in GW1/GW3 and KDB in GW2. None have proven worthy yet. So the question heading into the break, do I keep Kane or move him?

Overall, I was 20 points over the average, scoring 63 points, on the back of 4 CS from my So’ton treble and Valencia with 3 BPS. My 2-man midfield of Eriksen and Mkhi came up with a single assist. Up front I stuck with Firmino, Jesus and Kane, given the captaincy. Never did I waver from the idea from captaining Kane, but it appears the August doldrums will continue into next season for Harry. Jesus and Firmino returned 21 points and have potentially retained their starting spots.

However, Pep is scaring me. I don’t feel 100% confident in Jesus retaining his starting spot with or without Aguero. I feel just as Kun sits on the bench, that well could have been Jesus in a future game. Not that I would captain him, like the hundreds of thousands who gave the armband to the Argentine this weekend. If I were to move a forward, it would be Jesus in favor of Morata, who is the lone forward with no competition and seemingly the target for all the Blues. Hazard on the mend, this could means big scores for Morata moving foward.

Defensively, Foster got me just 2 points, but I plan on sticking with him, no intentions to running Elliot between the sticks. Kompany, while healthy through 3 games, his name is now a target for transfer. While they have mixed fixtures out of the break, I do want to get Alonso in and I think GW4 might be the right time; lei/ARS/sto/MCI are the first 4 games out of the break.

No intention to burn WC on the international break, don’t feel my team is broken. Would much rather take a -4 if I want to bring both Chelsea boys in. A bit longer term, I want to move one of my 3 So’ton defenders.
