Introduction

It’s worth noting that the teams shown may not necessarily end up being the final teams or the transfers may have been made in the days prior to the posting . It’s an informal situation to give you an idea of trends. However the FFGeek team and the Contributor tracker team mentioned above on the FFGeek Patreon site all make transfers as articles are posted. So you’re always up to date and live

Rick Porter

Rick’s last 5 seasons ORs were 1k, 29k, 1k, 30k and 2k.

GW12 Points: 78 -4  (FPL average 57) Total points: 808, Overall Rank: 73k, green arrow: 4k  Team Value: £103.1m

I was torn between two transfers last week and I simply couldn’t choose, so in the end I took a -4 to do both. I brought in Kane and Cancelo for Vardy and Rudiger. It didn’t quite work in my favour due to Rudiger’s goal, but I’m a lot happier with my team and I managed a small green arrow despite the hit. Matches are far more comfortable without Cancelo’s EO threatening to drop my rank tens of thousands with a single assist and I’m hoping it’s just a matter of time before Kane delivers.

His start to the season has been very poor, but we’re not bringing in players for what they have/haven’t achieved so far. Those points and blanks are in the past. It’s what they can deliver going forward that matters and Kane has high potential with a relatively low ownership. With so few forwards delivering consistently, it’s feels like an area where some risks can be taken and Kane, with his multiple Golden Boots, feels like a relatively unrisky risk who could improve rank easily just by doing what he (usually) does.

Transfer

I wanted to roll my transfer this week but that hasn’t happened. I was always hopeful Jota and Raphinha would be fit (and it looks like that should be the case) but the Chilwell injury forced a change anyway. I didn’t have James, so it was the world’s easiest decision to swap him in before his price goes up again.

Captain

Salah, of course. Kane vice.

GW12 Review

GW12 was the best week of the season so far for my team in terms of GW rank, leading to a 42% improvement in the overall rankings. That’s 5 green arrows in the last 6 gameweeks and into the top 100k for the first time this season.

Premium full-backs really are smashing it in FPL at the moment and this week was no exception. I’m fortunate to own 3 of the 4 big players in this respect and I got even lucky this week with Rudiger also scoring big meaning that 50 of my 85 points came from Alexander-Arnold, Cancelo, Chilwell and Rudiger alone. I had 3 attacking returns to supplement this – Perma-Captain Salah got his customary return along with an assist for Gallagher and a goal from Ivan Toney (yes you read that right!)

Only 4 blanks this week. Steele was a little unlucky to get his clean sheet wiped late on. Sir Harold may still look only a percentage of the Kane of old, but was unfortunate not to score. Antonio (aka 2G0A since GW3) seems to have forgotten what FPL returns are and 2-pointer Smith-Rowe was a late bench replacement for the poorly Raphinha. Typical that I get 2 points from Sub 1 after having double figure scores there in the 2 weeks previous to this!

Let’s not complain though, 7/11 returns is a great week and I’ve 2 free transfers again going into GW13. Just as well really as there was some pretty big injury news this midweek.

GW13 Team

2 free transfers and £1.3m in the bank.

The big blow for FPL managers is that 1 of the big 4 wing-backs is now injured. As I write this, we’re still awaiting confirmation on the full extent of Ben Chilwell’s knee injury but there seems to be a strong suspicion that this is a cruciate injury which would rule him out for the rest of the season. Best case scenario would be just a twisted knee which could mean a 2-4 week absence but even in the latter case with 6 GWs between now and Christmas, it’s still a transfer out for me.

For his replacement, I don’t see any reason to be over-thinking. I don’t own Reece James, he’s in great form and he’s been a target for me for a couple of weeks. Initially he was going to be a replacement for Ruidger, but that solves that problem for now. The other option would be Marcos Alonso – he’s cheaper and we all know that when he’s on fire that he’s an immense FPL asset. If I owned James and Chilwell then I’d strongly consider Alonso. But as I say, I’m not going to overthink this, and Rudiger certainly isn’t a bad asset to have – he has 3 attacking returns already this season and tends to be pretty secure gametime-wise. I’m happy to hold him for now and James is in.

As for my second transfer, I’m not 100% sure what to do. Jimenez looks appealing this week with a couple of good fixtures coming up but I’m £0.2 short if I sell Toney with the other alternative being to sell Antonio. I could consider Hwang as a cheaper alternative but I’m not sold on him as an asset. Raphinha to Jota is another option, but the Leeds man has a good set of fixtures coming up so I’m loathe to sell. The other, other option is to replace the red-flagged McArthur but I can’t see an obvious change here either. All these moves feel like luxury transfers and all have some uncertainty associated with them so I think my best move is to roll the other transfer again and hold on to the security of 2 frees again for midweek GW14.

As for my team, I’m 4-4-2 this week with Antonio and Duffy on the bench along with the red-flagged McArthur. I did toy with possibly benching Toney this week, but Everton have a bit of an injury crisis at present and are posting some pretty awful defensive numbers so I’m giving him the nod. There’s been a bit of chat on social media this week about possibly switching Captaincy away from Salah, but personally I’m not buying any of that at the moment. Salah is consistently posting great stats, he’s got a very high points floor, never mind a high points ceiling and aside from that, with an Effective Ownership of around 180% each week – if he bags 2 returns as a non-Captain and your Captain blanks, you’re in for pretty heavy hit on your Overall Rank.

Looking further forward, I might not get time for a full write-up for GW14 so if there’s no injuries I’ll probably look at bringing Callum Wilson in for Toney and roll the other transfer again. For GW15, I’m then keen to try and get a City attacking player into my line-up though I’m planning to scout them a bit this week and next to see who the best option might be.

As per usual I’ll post my team on Twitter before the deadline – probably Saturday morning again I’d anticipate. Good luck folks and I hope you enjoy the games.

In the blink of an eye, the team looks in a perilous state with Chillwell looking definitely out long-term, and concerns about Foden fitness. Dealing with these issues is also preventing me from addressing my woeful (but fit) attack. I think this gameweek for me may come down to whether Vardy is able to match whatever Kane does.

My transfer or transfers will depend on news from the press conferences.

If Foden is ruled out, I will likely do a straight swap to Jota.
Raphinha was a worry but has now been pronounced fit by Bielsa
If Foden is good to go, I will almost certainly do Chilwell to Alonso. But this move can wait a week and I would only do it if there is no doubt about the availability of Foden.

Captain will be Salah.

Best of luck to you all.

Not sure on moves as I write this. Leaning towards Raphinha out to Jota in and then doing the injured Chilwell to Alonso next week which would allow moving Saka to Jota but I really fancy Jota v Saints. Tough call to be confirmed

Transfer summary: Either Raphinha out to Jota or Chilwell out to Alonso to be decided
