Rob Reid with his fantasy premier league GW28 player picks

Hi everyone and welcome to Gameweek 28 Player Picks.

You may recall that last season I ran a weekly article where I selected an Ace, Banker and Joker pick each week. This season I’ve slightly changed the format but I’ll be making my picks along similar lines. The Ace will be a form player who I would heavily favour for captain this week. The Banker is a fixture pick and has an eye to the next few gameweeks. The Joker will be a differential pick where the only condition is that they must have less than 10% ownership.

I’ll be keeping an eye on how each player performs each week. After the success of GW1 & 2s Bankers, I’ve decided to go back on my original plan and I’ll now be following the Banker pick for 4 weeks again, like I did last season. I’ll also be running a weekly average on how well the selections perform each week. Finally, there will be Guest Picks again from time to time and I’ll be running some Twitter Polls throughout the season where Fantasy Football Geek readers and Twitter followers will be able to vote on who we’re going to pick in each category – keep an eye out for these as the season goes on and feel free to vote!

Here goes – wish me luck!

Gameweek 28 Picks

Banker – Alisson (LIV 6.0m) – WAT

With the focus now turning on players who have a fixture in GW31, Liverpool assets should continue to prove popular amongst FPL managers. They may have been misfiring a little going forward of late, but they still boast the highest number of clean sheets in the EPL this season with 15. Alisson picked up a double figure return at Old Trafford on Sunday and does seem to attract bonus points due to his high pass completion statistics. The Reds have nice fixtures in 3 of their next 4 with an away Merseyside derby making up the other and no blank gameweeks so sell at your peril!

Ace – Sergio Aguero (MCI 11.6m) – WHM

It’s hard to ignore Aguero again this week, despite him playing 120 minutes in The Carabao Cup Final on Sunday. 7 goals in his last 4 EPL matches, a tally of 17 goals and 8 assists for the season and the visit of a West Ham side who struggle on the road are all good reasons why you should own him this week, although I do have an outside concern that he may have his minutes managed. Much depends on the injury news on Gabriel Jesus – if he’s not fit then Aguero should at least play an hour. Be prepared to hold out for news in Pep’s pre-match press conference, be left very disappointed when Pep is cryptic as ever and then take the gamble anyway!

Joker – James Ward-Prowse (SOU 5.1m) – FUL

In a break from tradition of picking someone playing Huddersfield, I’m going for someone playing the other terrible defence in the EPL – Fulham. JWP may have blanked in his last 3, but he’d scored in the previous 3 before that and with his set piece responsibility I like his chances of at least an assist against a Fulham side who were quite frankly awful at defending corners last Friday. The Saints aren’t on the best of runs themselves so there could be some goals in what is looking like a proverbial relegation 6-pointer. I can see this game producing a catalogue of errors – it might simply be a question of who makes the least!

That’s all from me this week on Player Picks, best of luck for this week everyone!
