Here’s an article on who is likely to be the Premier Leagues top goal scorer
Who is likely to be the Premier Leagues top goal scorer?
While the season is only 6 Premier league gameweeks gone were already seeing some familiar and not so familiar faces in the top goalscorer charts.
Here we review some of the favourites you’re likely to find on most sports betting apps and some of the outsiders as well
Mo Salah
The Liverpool wide forward, classified as a midfielder in FPL, had a stunning return to the Premier League in 2017/18 after his short spell with Chelsea a few seasons before. He finished top goal scorer with 32 goals in what was a remarkable debut season. He followed that up with a 22 goal first equal in 18/19 with Sadio Mane and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Last season was a bit disappointing in comparison with 19 goals and a 5th ranked position.
He’s started this season with 6 goals behind the leaders with 7 goals in 3rd equal position. Liverpool maybe stumbling at the back without the injured Virgil Van Dijk to some degree but are still firing on all cylinders up front. They lead the league in non penalty xG and are 2nd in goals scored.
Salah now should have penalties all to himself rather than sharing with Milner in previous years and still has to be one of the favourites to finish in top spot
Harry Kane
From the heady days of 2017/18 and 2016/17 when the Spurs forward scored 30 goals and 29 goals respectively and finished 2nd and 1st also respectively in the Premier League goal score rankings the last 2 seasons have been very disappointing. Injury concerns and a drop in performance saw him finished 6th in the rankings in 18/19 with 17 goals and again 6th in the rankings in 19/20 with 18 goals. This season things have started very differently and he looks back to his best but with the addition of assists to his game. He’s only 6th equal in the scoring rank currently and looking more like a number 10 at the moment but with Spur’s scoring freely and Kane on penalty duties you wouldn’t doubt him being in the mix for top Premier League goalscorer.
Dominic Calvert Lewin
Having impressed in 19/20 with 13 goals in 30 starts plus 6 as sub the 23 year old Everton striker started the season in unbelievable fashion with 7 goals in his first 6 games including a hat trick against newly promoted West Bromwich Albion.
However it would be a brave man who thinks he can carry on in that vein and finish top scorer especially without the extra bounce of penalty duties which sit with his fellow strike partner Richarlison.
Jamie Vardy
The Leicester centre forward was last seasons top Premier League goal scorer with 23 goals helped by 4 from the penalty spot. This season, on the face of it, his 6 goals from 4 starts and 1 sub appearance looks respectable until you see that 4 have come from penalties and apart from penalties he’s only taken 5 shots in those 4 starts and 1 sub appearance.
Something is seriously wrong with Vardy and with a particularly shot shy Leicester City so unless things drastically change I can’t see Vardy being in the mix again this season.
What does this mean for fantasy premier league
Not necessarily that much surprisingly. Top points scorer last season was Kevin De Bruyne who scored 13 goals but added an incredible 23 assists to total 251 points. Jamie Vardy was someway back in 4th with 210 points which was the same as defender Trent Alexander Arnold of Liverpool. However, at the moment, he current top FPL points scorer is Son who has 8 goals and 2 assists. He’s also the current leading goal scorer with those 8 goals. So goals are important so far in this early part of the season but FPL points are a combination of goals, assists and bonus points and the top premier league goalscorer isn’t necessarily everything.
