Fantasy Premier League, Player Rankings

Here’s our fantasy premier league GW5 midfield player rankings article. There’s a range of stats plus commentary on each player and their next 6 fixtures. This will help you choose the best transfer for your team

FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE GW5 MIDFIELD PLAYER RANKINGS

First it’s important to remember that each player is ranked as a transfer target for this week. So while we generally look at fixtures form and underlying stats a player who’s away to Man City is going to be ranked lower than someone home to Huddersfield for example. If possible a transfer should have a good fixture first up.

Firstly there’s a table of stats. Then there’s a bit of brief commentary on each player.

This is the 2nd player rankings article. I’ve also written a defenders and GKs player rankings article

STATS DEFINITIONS

Fixt Ease: The ease of the mentioned fixture range from an attacking perspective. See our GW5 fixture ease article

Mins per FPL pt: How long it took to earn an FPL point in 16/17. The lower the better

The players

Eriksen

Great form and fixtures for the creative force behind  Spurs.  Great underlying stats and although assist based primarily has upped his game in terms of goal threat.  Only negative is that his team mate Alli is banned for 2 more European games therefore meaning Eriksen is more rotation prone.

Swansea (H)
West Ham (A)
Huddersfield (A)
Bournemouth (H)
Liverpool (H)
Man Utd (A)

Alli

Practically playing as a striker he’s not matched his midfield compatriot as yet but the Spurs goal scoring midfielder has scored twice even though his expected goal numbers aren’t anything exceptional.  Great fixtures to come as I said for Eriksen.  He’s also banned from the next 2 UCL games so we can expect 90 minutes or thereabouts in each game.

Swansea (H)
West Ham (A)
Huddersfield (A)
Bournemouth (H)
Liverpool (H)
Man Utd (A)

Salah

2 goals and 2 assists for the RW playing on the right hand side of a front 3 for Liverpool.  Exceptional underlying stats to date back this up as no fluke.  Good fixtures to come too.

Burnley (H)
Leicester (A)
Newcastle (A)
Man Utd (H)
Spurs (A)
Huddersfield (H)

Mkhitaryan

5 assists and leading the expected assists chart is some feat for the man who only got 4 in 1348 minutes last season.  However 4 were against the basket cases of Swansea and West Ham so maybe we should proceed with some caution.  Hasn’t shown much goal threat but history has shown that he has got that.  Mixed fixtures though so we should start seeing the real Man Utd team after a good fixture start

Everton (H)
Southampton (A)
Crystal Palace (H)
Liverpool (A)
Huddersfield (A)
Spurs (H)

Sanchez

After his exertions for the Chile team over the international break only played 15 minutes in the hammering of Bournemouth.  With no transfer available until the January window hopefully we will see last years Sanchez for Arsenal.  Even without the possibility of being a CF he’s force in FPL.  Arsenal are on the cusp of some decent fixtures too.  It’s just the price

Chelsea (A)
West Brom (H)
Brighton (H)
Watford (A)
Everton (A)
Swansea (H)

De Bruyne

De Bruyne broke his 3 game drought with a pair of assists in the win over Liverpool.  Has produced underlying assists stats at a similar level to  Ozil and Eriksen although far less than Mkhitaryan.  However very little goal threat to date.  The issue isn’t particularly what we expect him to return it’s the price.  £10m for little goal threat is a pretty steep cost.  Fixtures are good though with only Chelsea as a negative fixture

Watford (A)
Crystal Palace (H)
Chelsea (A)
Stoke (H)
Burnley (H)
West Brom (A)

Mahrez

3 assists to date isn’t a bad return considering the fixtures have been terrible.  However given last years form this is a leap of faith on the back of some good fixtures.  However for that price and the alternatives available it is a gamble

Huddersfield (A)
Liverpool (H)
Bournemouth (A)
West Brom (H)
Swansea (A)
Everton (H)

Silva

Like De Bruyne but so far less assist threat and little goal threat.  However has produced a pair of assists and the fixtures could allow him to profit.

Watford (A)
Crystal Palace (H)
Chelsea (A)
Stoke (H)
Burnley (H)
West Brom (A)

Choupo Moting

The new Stoke acquisition has mixed his time up as a CF and a LW seemingly rotating with Jese.  2 goals against Man Utd have bought him to the fore.  However considering the opposition and the team around him his underlying stats have been very good. Midfielders playing as strikers don’t come up very often so they can be worth a throw of the dice.  It’s just how much time will be central and how much will be further left.  Also the fixtures could be more helpful.

 Newcastle (A)
Chelsea (H)
Southampton (H)
Man City (A)
Bournemouth (H)
Watford (A)

Antonio

1 assist in his first 3 games isn’t much to write home about and how advanced he will be is questionable given that Carroll for the moment is fit and there’s Chicharito and Arnautovic at the club.  Still this is a gamble on good fixtures especially those after the next 2.

West Brom (A)
Spurs (H)
Swansea (H)
Burnley (A)
Brighton (H)
Crystal Palace (A)
