fantasy premier league team selection GW25 – the FFGeek team

Fantasy Premier League, ffgeek teams

Here’s my fantasy premier league team selection GW25 article. As is normal, I review GW24, share my transfer thoughts, captain choice and the lineup dilemmas.

Firstly if you’re new to the site my last 3 seasons overall ranks are 36k, 17k and 21k.

GW24 review

GW24 points: 87 -4 on TC (FPL average 53) Total points 1,402, Gameweek rank 230k, Overall Rank: 72k, green arrow 62k, Team Value: £104.0m

Here’s the points:

So a good gameweek.  In short 87 points less 4 points for an extra transfer.  Total points of 1,402 and a 62k green arrow to 72k overall rank. 5 returning players but really the green arrow was down to the Salah triple captain.

Not much else to say.

Team structure

Again apologies to regular readers for the definition preamble.

If it’s the first time you’ve seen it here’s how I classify each player in my FPL team:

Template player: 7 of the 10 top FPL managers I follow have him in their team. I use the 10 managers as a proxy for serious FPL managers who will finish in the top 100k or so. People have different interpretations of what is an FPL template. There’s no true definition though.

Template replacement player: the player you choose to go head to head against a template player with.

Bench player: A player who will for the most part be on your bench. Sometimes there are bench rotaters but I won’t muddy the waters

Difference maker: these are the rest and the players who can move you forward or back. I don’t call them differentials as this implies an ownership threshold which I don’t use

I’ve also added those players who will blank in GW28 due to Man City v Arsenal and Asto Villa v Sheffield United being postponed due to the Man City v Villa EFL Cup final.

Here’s my squad using these categories:

Transfers

I free transfer and £0.0m in the bank.

This was such a difficult week for deciding on a transfer in that no player really ticked all the boxes that I wanted.

I also thought of just holding Mane in that they have Norwich and West Ham after GW25.  However the proximity of their GW26 game v Norwich on the 15th February to Liverpools UCL match v A Madrid was just too close.  I also hate holding injured players as they never ever seem to come back when predicted and you just get into a never ending “next week” holding spiral which is so difficult to get off.

So then I had to choose someone to replace him

Priorities further ahead

Firstly, I would like 3 Liverpool players again.  Adding either Robertson or Firmino to the team.

Secondly I would like Danny Ings for Southampton’s great GW26 onwards fixture run.

I will possibly take a -4 for both next week.

The options to replace Mane

If I had no other priorities I probably would have gone either Sterling or a -4 for Aubameyang however both of those give me problems with my other priorities.

So I then went to a choice of Mahrez.  I am a big fan.  I could have got Mahrez, Ings and Van Dijk in over Rico but not Robertson.  Firmino would be totally impossible.  I’m also nervous of rotation with the Champions League fixtures against Real Madrid the obvious priority.  While West Ham at home is very juicy.  Leicester and Spurs away aren’t so easy even for City.  Mahrez also adds another blanking player to GW28

Martial was another option and although the fixtures are mixed he at least allows me to sneak in Ings and Robertson.  Firmino though is £0.5m short for next week.

Perez was definitely one I wanted but the thought of double Leicester when the fixtures are Chelsea, Wolves and Man City was just too much.

So in the end I decided on Martial.  It’s not an ideal choice for sure but I’ve gone with it anyway.  At some stage you just have to draw a line under the pontificating and Mane looks like he will go down in price tonight according to the price change predictor site FPL statistics.

I’m not going to do the Robertson to Rico transfer this week for -4.  I want another weeks thinking time.  I may regret that.

Lineup issues

The only lineup issues were between Lundstram, Holgate, Rico, Cantwell and Soyuncu.   In the end I went for them in that order.  Lundstram has been neched by Sheffield United the last 2 games with Besic the threat gametime wise.

Captain choice

I haven’t done a captain analysis article as yet but with Salah the runaway captain poll leader  I won’t be going anywhere else.

The team lineup looks like this:

Good luck this gameweek
