fantasy premier league team tips – FFGeek contributors show their GW4 teams part 3

Here’s part 3 of the FPL managers who contribute to the FFGeek site with good histories who show their teams each week. This will give people a feel for what other managers are doing. It’s a fairly informal thing with no obligation on anyone and these teams may change at anytime before the deadline without further notice. It also wont cover early transfers. It’s just to give an idea of the trends for the week no more.

Here’s the links to part 1 of the FFGeek contributor articles and part 2 of the FFGeek contributor articles

Joseph Crilley

Joseph finished with an overall rank of 7k last season and 13k in 16/17

GW3 points: 44 -4 (average 50) Total points 214, Gameweek rank 3,741k, Overall Rank: 185k, red arrow 105k, Team Value: £101.7m

I spoke about my team in detail earlier in the week as part of my article when I activated my wildcard so I’ll avoid repeating what I said there. I’ve currently made no changes to that team though there are a couple of things that I’m still debating.

The main decision is around Lucas Moura who feels like a slight risk in spite of his Old Trafford brace. Son is back soon, but I’d be surprised to see him come straight back into the first XI given the form of Lucas. So I’m sticking with the Brazilian, who I have always had high hopes for, though the temptation is there to swap him and Kamara to Mitrovic/Zaha and a cheap midfielder.

The lack of Robertson as part of my backline is a concern, but I’m still happy to go with Alexander-Arnold as my Liverpool cover for the £1.0mil saving. I surprised even myself when I realised that I only had two players from both Liverpool and City, but the schedule has turned tough for the Reds and it’s proving tricky to know who is nailed from Pep’s team. The big player missing is Kane, but while I still have the confidence to captain Salah and Aguero, I don’t think he provides good value at the high price of £12.5mil. Fortunately, I am still able to enjoy his goals given my loyalties to Spurs!

There hasn’t been too much thinking regarding the captaincy as I have been settled on Aguero all week. Newcastle have looked poor, City have goals in them and Aguero has a fantastic record against the Magpies which all adds up to the armband being happily placed on him. Another 5 goal haul would go down a treat!

Best of luck to everyone this weekend and may your arrows be green!

Rob Reid

Gameweek 3 review

After a flying start of 170 points, this was my first bad gameweek of the season. My squad was looking a little threadbare going in, but ultimately it was the core players who let me down leaving me with a score 6 points below the GW average. The bright notes were a good captain selection as Salah returned for the 3rd consecutive week, a 3rd clean sheet from Alisson and a stroke of luck with Boly coming off the bench for 8 points after his fortuitous goal against City. Mendy also added 2 bonus points but that was it sadly as the rest disappointed.

The biggest let-downs were my strikers. Aguero, Ings and Aubameyang could only muster 6 points between them with the latter now a major headache for me with 3 blanks so far. My overall rank was also hit by the impact of high ownership players such as Alonso and Kane – this has certainly influenced my thinking as I go into GW4. The final salt in the wounds though was my 2 disastrous transfers. Richarlison is definitely an FPL albatross for me and I’m frustrated at the Ings for King move. C’est la vie!

Gameweek 4 team

Being philosophical, it’s important not to be too hard on yourself following a bad week. You’re never going to get 38 good gameweeks in a season and I’m thankful for a strong start that still leaves me with an OR I’d have been happy with at this stage had you offered it to me before GW1.

I decided after the Chelsea vs Newcastle game that I couldn’t go without Alonso any longer, especially with his ownership now sitting at near 35% and with no other Chelsea coverage. Richarlison also had to go, so I made an early transfer on Sunday night to take advantage of better prices. I did think strongly about playing my Wildcard, but I’m trying to hold off until at least the international break so I took a -4 hit. Annoyingly, I brought in Cairney before I found about his injury but I did just have enough funds to be able to offload Peltier, so the frustration of bringing in someone who has ultimately ended up red flagged was tempered by the satisfaction of bringing in Alonso for a non-playing 4.0m player.

My team therefore pretty much picks itself as I’ve 3 red flagged bench players (when you include Ben Hamer.) Boly is therefore my only fit player on the bench and Aguero has the armband. Looking forward, there is a high chance I’ll play my Wildcard after this week but we’ll see how things go. Aubameyang is a big worry for me. He was awful against West Ham and a blank against Cardiff could be the deal-breaker. We’ll see.

To be honest, I’ll be happy to tread water this gameweek but I still have a lot of confidence in my core players so fingers crossed. Good luck folks and I hope your arrows are green!

Costas Chari

Costas finished with an OR of 29k last season and 27k in 16/17

GW3 points: 35 -4 (average 50) Total points 193, Gameweek rank 4,870k, Overall Rank: 653k, red arrow 462k, Team Value: £101.4m

A catastrophic GW for me, might be the worst GW I’ve ever had in Fantasy Football, 31 points. Playing my wildcard crossed my mind but I will postpone it. I don’t like playing my wildcard really early.  Richarlison out and Sigurdsson in for me

Mikael Hietala

Mikael finished with an OR of 22k last season

GW3 points: 45 -4 (average 50) Total points 166, Gameweek rank 3,603k, Overall Rank: 1,972k, red arrow 604k, Team Value: £100.3m

After a disastrous start to the season, it’s time to start fresh with a wildcard! I know that it’s only GW4, but some of us take this game very seriously. Being at the bottom of the Contributors League and 8th (out of 10) in my mini-league does not really work wonders for my ego. I missed out on Mendy and/or Robertson because I splashed the cash on Aubameyang, and it’s definitely time to sort out this unsuccessful punt.

My patience with King, Bernardo Silva and Daniels has also run out. This season is shaping up to be all about the wing-backs, so I invested heavily in the defence. My strategy is to focus on the attacking returns rather than think about clean sheets. Between them, Alonso, Mendy and Bellerin have 9 assists, which is a ridiculous stat. I’m taking a risk on Alli, but I foresee him returning in the next weeks as he was heavily involved in the action at Old Trafford.

In my opinion, Gundogan has the same potential for returns as Bernardo Silva, but is 2 mil cheaper, so he comes into the team. Aguero obviously stays, and Mitrovic and Zaha are the other two strikers because of their weekend performances. Everyone has favourable fixtures coming up, so this should ensure green arrows over the next few weeks.. fingers crossed!

Good luck to everyone!
