Firstly if you’re new to the site my last 3 seasons overall ranks are 36k, 17k and 21k
Gameweek 9
GW9 points: 32 on WC (FPL average 37) Total points 470, Gameweek rank 4,764k, Overall Rank: 998k, red arrow 194k, Team Value: £101.0m
Here’s the points:
As the saying goes a wildcard isn’t just for now it’s for Christmas or something like that?
In an also exact repeat of GW8 I scored 32 points and moved back 200k in overall rank to just short of 1 million at 998k. The ideal with a wildcard is to get an initial boost not a 200k overall rank drop but ho hum we move on.
So like the aftermath of GW8 I remind myself that OR is pretty misleading at this stage. As I said in my 10 top FPL managers article their OR spread is 192k to 1,289k. That’s pretty much a 1.1 million difference in overall rank but only 39 points difference. Every single point is roughly 28k OR. So, like last week, I’m not panicking yet. I’m going to stick to my method of playing and hope things turnaround.
Only 2 returning players both with a measly 5 points and a captain fail again plus a bench fail.
Out of the 15 players the only ones that came out with statistical credit were Abraham, Tomori, Sterling, the Liverpool defence (7 shots only conceded), the Sheffield Utd defence, with De Bruyne somewhere in between good and bad. That’s 9 poor performances, 5 good ones and 1 in between
Team structure
I think it’s worth a quick note to state how the team will operate going forward.
Assuming Otamendi is fit for GW10 then 8 outfield players of Aubameyang, Wilson, Abraham, Mount, De Bruyne, Sterling, Alexander Arnold and Otamendi will start every game. Then there are 5 players who will rotate for 2 positions at least 1 being a defender. These are Lundstram, Soyuncu, Tomori and then midfielders Cantwell and Cleverley.
Transfer thoughts
1 free transfer and £0.1m in the bank
So unless Pep categorically rules out Otamendi then I will carry over a free transfer. The BBC are reporting him back in training after getting a knock for Argentina. At the moment I haven’t exercised my brain into thinking who I would transfer in at Otamendi’s expense. I will leave that if I need it.
Captain thoughts
I will put a poll up after the Man City Champions League game v Atalanta tonight but Pep’s comments on Aguero’s resting v Palace despite 2 weeks off and Jesus having played for Brazil pushes Pep into the completely and utterly unpredictable category whereas before he was just utterly unpredictable.
My sense is to go for Sterling. There’s alot of comments around his wde position and I get that but you can’t ignore the underlying stats which continue to show exceptional volume and quality of chances. In my mind he’s an explosion waiting to happen. Probably the main consideration will be whether to go all out and have De Bruyne as vice in order to avoid the debacle of the previous gameweek.
Lineup issues
A tricky one with Leicester and Chelsea away in defence but I’ve gone for their clean sheet potential over Cleverley’s ability to return vs Bournemouth but that is the major decision to make.
The team pre any transfers
That’s it. Hope you had a good gameweek.
