The first pre-season games can be a bit meaningless so beware
August 22
Spurs 3-0 Ipswich Town
Goals: Son 2 Sessegnon
Spurs: Lloris (c) (Hart 46 (Gazzaniga 74)), Gedson, Foyth (Carter-Vickers 46), Alderweireld, Davies (Cirkin 46), Hojbjerg (White 64), Winks (Devine 71), Lucas (Scarlett 71), Dele (Bowden 74), Sessegnon, Son (Clarke 46).
Not much to learn here as not much of a team. £5.0m Davies/Rose are the cheapest defenders and then it’s the positions of the AMs Alli, Son etc that are most of interest but too early for clues on both.
Everton 3 Blackpool 3
Sigurdsson 2 Calvert Lewin
Pickford (Lössl 46′); Digne (Nkounkou 62′), Branthwaite (Keane 46′), Holgate (Gibson 62′), Kenny (Coleman 46′); Iwobi (Bešić 62′), Sigurdsson (John 76′), Davies, Gordon (Bolasie 62′); Calvert-Lewin (Simms 76′), Kean (Walcott 46′).
£4.0m def Branthwaite and £4.5m Mid Gordon who both started in a strong side are of interest. Can £7.0m Sigurdsson become an option again and as can £7.0m Calvert Lewin?
Liverpool 3 Stuttgart 0
Goals: Firmino Keita Brewster
First-half team: Alisson, Williams, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson, Fabinho, Keita, Jones, Mane, Salah, Firmino.
Second-half team: Adrian, Hoever, Phillips, Van den Berg (Koumetio, 68), Tsimikas, Wijnaldum, Milner, Grujic, Elliott, Minamino, Brewster.

August 25
Liverpool 2 Salzburg 2
Goals: Brewster 2
Liverpool: Alisson, Williams, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson, Fabinho, Wijnaldum, Keita, Mane, Salah, Firmino.
Subs: Adrian, Kelleher, Milner, Grujic, Jones, Minamino, Tsimikas, Brewster, Phillips, Hoever, Elliott, Van den Berg, Koumetio.
Nothing much to lean here lineup wise. £4.5m Brewster going on loan would be very welcome and these goals will help that. £5.5m Gomez seems the cheapest defender option and played both games. Alexander Arnold has an injury apparently although only a minor issue.
Arsenal 4 MK Dons 1
Got no details here but Community Shield will help. £4.5m Saliba as a defender would be nice. The position of Aubameyang and gametime of £6.0m forward Nketiah and £5.5m Mid Saka are worth monitoring
C Palace 2 Oxford 1
Goals; Zaha, Townsend
Palace: Henderson, Ward [Inniss, 70], Kouyaté [Kelly, 61], Dann [Woods, 70], Riedewald [Gordon, 80], Townsend [Malachi Boateng, 81], McCarthy [Mitchell, 20], McArthur [Kirby, 75], Zaha, Ayew [Meyer, 45], Schlupp [Pierrick, 70].
Hard to take much from this. £4.0m defender Mitchell is the main target here but it was a disappointing 20 minutes only.
Crewe 0 Newcastle 3
Goals: Carroll, Atsu and Fernandez
Newcastle United (first half): Mark Gillespie, Emil Krafth, Jamaal Lascelles, Ciaran Clark, Paul Dummett, Jacob Murphy, Isaac Hayden, Daniel Barlaser, Allan Saint-Maximin, Miguel Almirón, Andy Carroll
Newcastle United (second half): Karl Darlow, DeAndre Yedlin, Federico Fernández, Florian Lejuene, Javier Manquillo, Henri Saivet, Matty Longstaff, Jonjo Shelvey, Christian Atsu, Sean Longstaff, Dwight Gayle (sub Daniel Barlaser 63)
Not much to look for with Newcastle. Maybe the gametime and form of £6.0m forward Dwight Gayle although he is now out for months after an injury in this game
Dundee 0 Sheffield 1
Blades: Ramsdale, Slater, Basham, Egan, J. Robinson, Stevens, Norwood, Berge, Fleck, Sharp, C. Robinson.
Unused: Foderingham, Dewhurst, Jagielka, Osborn, Bryan, L. Freeman, Norrington-Davies, Brunt, Gordon, Hackford, Graham, Broadbent.
A strong and predictable team apart from the forwards where clarity would be useful. This game didn’t help that.
Ipswich 1 West Ham 4
Goals: Haller 45, 60, 65, Soucek 63
West Ham United: Randolph; Coventry, Balbuena, Alese (Cardoso 55), Cresswell (c); Soucek (Lewis 74), Wilshere, Yarmolenko. F. Anderson (Odubeko 80), Diangana (Kemp 74); Haller
Sub not used: Roberto (GK)
Wycombe 1 West Ham 5
Goals: Masuaku 5, Charles 28 (og), Lanzini 36, Bowen 43, 59
West Ham United: Martin (Anang 71), Johnson, Baptiste, Ogbonna (Akinola 71), Masuaku, Cullen, Noble © (Longelo 71), Bowen, Lanzini, Fornals, Antonio (Xande Silva 71)
Sub not used: Adarkwa
£6.0m Yarmolenko £6.5m Bowen, £5.0m Soucek and £6.5m Antonio are on the form and lineup watchlist. Bowen and Soucek came out positively.
26 August
Birmingham 0 Leicester 2
Goals: Albrighton and Dewsbury-Hall
No lineup here but £4.5m defender Justin started as did £7.0m Mid Barnes who are on the watchlist.
