Hi everyone and welcome to Gameweek 9 Player Picks.
You may recall that last season I ran a weekly article where I selected an Ace, Banker and Joker pick each week. This season I’ve slightly changed the format but I’ll be making my picks along similar lines. The Ace will be a form player who I would heavily favour for captain this week. The Banker is a fixture pick and has an eye to the next few gameweeks. The Joker will be a differential pick where the only condition is that they must have less than 10% ownership.
I’ll be keeping an eye on how each player performs each week. After the success of GW1 & 2s Bankers, I’ve decided to go back on my original plan and I’ll now be following the Banker pick for 4 weeks again, like I did last season. I’ll also be running a weekly average on how well the selections perform each week. Finally, there will be Guest Picks again from time to time and I’ll be running some Twitter Polls throughout the season where Fantasy Football Geek readers and Twitter followers will be able to vote on who we’re going to pick in each category – keep an eye out for these as the season goes on and feel free to vote!
Here goes – wish me luck!

Gameweek 9 picks
Banker – Andrew Robertson (LIV £6.3m) – hud
After a full set of blanks for last week’s picks it’s a ‘must do better’ kind of week, and I’ve gone for who I think is a fairly safe Banker pick for the next 4 weeks in Scotland captain Robertson. It may have been a dismal international window for his country, but Robertson looks a good bet for some clean sheet points in the next few weeks with Liverpool facing Huddersfield, Cardiff and Fulham in this period. He will also be looking to add to his attacking returns (2 assists so far) and has good potential for bonus point – perhaps he’s a more secure bet for some Liverpool returns than his higher priced teammates, some of whom are also injury doubts.
Ace (as picked by the Fantasy Football Geek Twitter Community) – Sergio Aguero (MCI £11.3m) – BUR
I guess there’s no surprises here with 59% of 430 voters choosing Aguero as the Ace pick for GW9. Thank you for your votes everyone! It’s been a steady rather than explosive start from Kun with just that one double figure haul in GW2, but he has returned in 5/8 gameweeks and should be fresh after a rest over the international window. Hopefully this might reduce his chances of being subbed around the 60 minute mark, paving the way for another explosive return and he’ll certainly be a heavy captain favourite this week. Some words of warning though – he only averages a goal a game versus Burnley in the EPL (4 goals in 4 appearances) and I’m sure his old team mate Joe Hart will be keen to keep him out!
Joker – Raheem Sterling (MCI £11.1) – BUR
If you’re on your Wildcard this week or are looking for a differential high value replacement for Mo Salah and co. I don’t think you can go far wrong with Sterling (as several of our Twitter voters have mentioned over the last few weeks in their comments.) He’s quietly picked up where he left off last season and already has 4 goals, 2 assists and 6 bonus points to his name in this campaign. He should be riding high after a superb performance for England on Monday and with just 6.1% ownership, he could be great way to catapult you up the overall rankings.
That’s all from me this week folks and good luck!
