Current second season attacking players

Here’s a schedule of midfielders and forward players that have just finished their 2nd season in the Premier League. I didn’t find that many which was a little strange.  I may have missed some out?

Here I’ve tried to assess whether they have improved in their 2nd season or not.

The stats are fairly obvious.  I’ve used Points Per Match as well as Points Per 90 as some of the players had significant sub minutes so needed to be compared on actual pitch time rather than on a points per match basis.

To make it easier I’ve coloured those in Green that I think improved.  Red are those who I think went backwards and Grey those who stayed the same

Here’s the schedule

So what does that mean?

So while there were a number of improvers it was by no means universal so on that basis it would be hard to say everyone will improve in their 2nd season.

It is fair to say though that Jota’s and Tielemans 1st season was particularly strong so difficult to improve upon.  However I wouldn’t say that about Maddison or McNeil’s first season whereafter we didn’t see any improvement.

Attacking Players going into next season

There are a ton of attacking players going into next season as their 2nd season.  So I’ve given some basic information on them and then commented in detail on a few underneath.

Here’s the schedule;

Fernandes

The Man Utd midfielder has produced some pretty outstanding stats this season.  However 4 of his 8 goals were penalties and he also benefited from some pretty outstanding finishing not only by himself but with his colleagues finishing off his chances created.

Doesn’t need to replicate a PPM 0f 8.4 to have a good season but impossible to think he’ll do better

Pulisic

An injury may mean that initial thoughts about the Chelsea midfielder maybe irrelevant but like Fernandes it’s a pretty high bar to beat.  His underlying stats though are outstanding and he kept them at a pretty consistent level over the season

Maupay and Trossard

The Brighton forward Maupay did ok if not outstanding and would have done better if his finishing didn’t let him down.  Did have good shooting volumes and should have pen duties.  As the squad adjusts to Potters style there could be remove for improvement.  A player mainly for good fixtures runs though I would suggest.

Trossard had a few strong games towards the end of the season and with more regular minutes could be an option in good fixture runs

Pepe

A good FA Cup performance for the Arsenal RW can’t hide 1 return in his last 8 league appearances and a complete meltdown of his underlying stats.  Hope for a big price drop.  RW is also Willians favoured position although Willian has the ability to play elsewhere.

Adams

Despite not scoring in his first 6 starts there was enough in the underlying stats to suggest things could come right.  Although he got more minutes after the lockdown it was only the last 3 appearances where he showed some underlyings stats.  Here we did see 3 goals in 3 good performances,  2 appearances which were from the subs bench.  If he’s the chosen partner there is possibly more there.  However again you’d be looking carefully at price and fixture runs.
